When do the normal flyways usually bunch up again. Iv been wanting to start scouting for them but not sure if they have started back. Just wondering if somebody could help me. got 5 first day. started at a stand and had no luck. i thot it got light at 630> well i was wrong. came in to late into the moring. so just run and gun'd for bout and hour to get my number. didnt really see any unusual small bandits.
Around here, (Nova Scotia - eastern seaboard area), they start to move along flyways in September. By October they are gathering in larger numbers, and by November the big roosts are establishied. First of September is usually gun and run type of hunting. October you can start hunting flyways....hope it helps.
i cant stand weekdays and watching crows in my backyard. i just got home from work and there were 5 crows in my tree. i had to bust out the mouth call and get them fired up....i live on a hill in an urban district and they are always makin noises. i need to become a member or buy a video to learn more calls
If you want to learn the differen't crow calls go to the Crow Buster Store "CrowMart" they have Instructional cd's on crow calling. They sell hand calls, cd's, dvd's, hats and shirts, all for crow hunting.

just ordered the hand calling cd....im excited....guarenteed a better hand caller by next weekends shoot...yeeeha
well, i got it in the mail....finds out....i was basically calling all wrong...lol im excited to practice, its like your sittin beside me bob giving me personal lessons..im pretty darn good at making the calls i have to say. its just the part of remembering them all when im in the field. i believe thats where im gonna need to strengthen my memory
The first two calls I would tackle are the distress call and the fighting call. If you either run & gun or flyway shoot, those two calls will serve you very well! It will take time to remember the cadence in your memory bank but once remembered you will be on you're way!
Good Hunting!

i was mistaken. first off their buzzards and second off afternoon would be better. Went up there friday and talked to the tech supervisor. he said late afternoon the crows begin to build quite large when they open the (sal?) up. no guns permitted on the property, which i wasnt planning on otherwise. im tryin to watch it every night and see if they show me ideas to small roost locations or a good place to set up.

Crows are starting to gather in large groups up here now in Canada. Had a short shoot last evening, got some birds but sadly they were in groups of 25-50. Knock a couple down from each gang but end up educating a whole lot of crows.
re: garbage dumps, to my experience early morning is best at dumps, well before the place opens up to the public.
Used to locate near dump's and call crows heading into the site. Also shot loads of crows sniper style with my varmint rifles as they picked for food amoungst the trash. I would set up a ground blind at an elevated location and dress in snow cammo. Best times were in the very early spring when the ground was still covered in snow and food was scarce.
During the summer and fall natural food in the form of crops, insects, young birds, etc. are plentiful and crows are not common visitors to the garbage dumps in my region.

I just got permission tonight to crow hunt on the bordering property of the dump. They also alow me to shoot whistle pigs as well. cant wait. gonna glass the dump from the property for a couple days first to see the best oportunity.
Well gentleman, I think I am on to something. I went and glassed the dump tonight for about an hour. I was approx 150-200 yards away on the next highest hilltop. I beleive scouting a dump in the evening or morning is an excellent way to find flyways to and from any size roost that may be happening at this time of year. I may be wrong. I strongly noted 2 major flyways they made leaving the dump tonight. If Bob A is right about crows averaging 10-11 miles max feeding from there roost then if I spot the next 2 or 3 nights 2-4 miles in the direction that they are flying to in the evening I think I might be able to goldmine the (roost) or where they are going to. I will keep ya updated!
well i did what i said i was gonna do and it paid off. just a little unexpected. last 4 nights i have went to the last spot i have scouted them, only about 1 1/2 miles from the dump to catch these birds in a flyway. the thing was they kept messing around on this hilltop. i would go to the other side of the hilltop on the next road ( 1/2 mile or so) and i wouldnt see a damn bird fly over. so tonight i said hell with it. i walked up on the hill....big hill....with a family member and WALA!!...its the roost. its only prob around 1-2 hundred i would say. it just caught me off guard because they started leaving the dunp around 7:15 and i thought for sure they would have a long flight ahead. but i figure since they were eating good all day, they can prob head back to the roost and mess around with each other early. well the only place i can hunt them is a property about 4 hundred yards away from the dump. there roost is only about a mile and half to 2 away. i dunno. im just glad it all worked out i guess...ps, didnt have a gun in hand or mouth call so i didnt scare them. besides there are quad trails everywhere underneath this roost.
