I've only gone after the crows 3 days but the shooting has been real poor. A handful of birds here and there; haven't even gone thru a box of shells yet. And I could do without the hot weather and mosquitos. But the dumb birds that want to land in the decoys are a nice change from the 50+ yard pass shooting with buffered #6's.
Am I ready for goose season? Indeed. All that is left to do is some last minute scouting to figure out which fields need to be hunted.
I am not a huge fan of this august crow season. I would MUCH rather trade Aug for Oct. However, I spoke to a Upper Peninsula crow hunter and he said that the last couple weeks of Aug he starts to see some fresh birds so I guess its not a total loss for everyone in the state. I did not get out crow hunting until Aug 16 or something like that due to the heat. Ive been out one time since then and I might make it out once this week with the cooler weather predicted. Im sure my results are similar to yours...not so hot. The results are, however, what I expect for Aug crow hunting.
Yep, going out for the first time this year. Our first section opens on the first of September. We can take the plugs out and use electronic callers. I just picked up a dozen of the Primos Hard Core feeders, now I just have to get a six pack of lookers.

We've been watching them feed every morning and then driving around at night trying to figure out where they are going. Should be easy shooting for the first week but if we don't figure out where they are escaping to at night the 2nd week might not be so good. Unfortunately I think alot of them are going back into the refuge at night.
Did you have a good season? I managed to get out half a dozen times but doubt if I will make it again this season.
Fairly disappointing on this end. Seemed to be fewer birds than the last couple of years and they were very uncooperative. They changed fields every day and never spent the night in the same place more than a couple of days. Real hard to keep track of.
We had fairly good success this early season but looking back on it Im not sure how....right place right time I guess. We saw the same type of activity you described. Hard to pattern birds and different feeding & roosting areas in consecutive days. We just took the attitude of "you cant get em on the couch" and did the best we could. I think the reason we did ok is we just plain guessed right a couple times.
On a side note, we did manage to get 7 oil bands from the Kalamazoo river oil spill. That was pretty neat. 6 oil bands on one hunt and the other came a few days later.
I have been hearing reports of new birds the last couple days...I have not personally seen any freshies but there are still 2 days of season left.
Hey guys, I got out this week for the resident season and got 2. For years I said they should raise the limits, let us use E-callers, hunt til sunset and most importantly pull the plugs. I got my wishes and it kind of backfired. I had more crows around me than I can remember on a goose hunt, and out there on state land I sit with an unplugged gun. You can't shoot crows unplugged.
Was in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, last week for geese and ducks. Man did I ever have the time of my life!! Here's some results from our hunting. The first photo is limits after 1 hour. The second was limits from 30-45 mins.

I would say in the 200-300 range. We had them coming into to us at first light. There were some landing while we were shooting. The first morning was practically all snows, the second morning were almost all ross geese. Didn't see too many Canadas at the time. The afternoons were all about duck. Didn't do too bad on them either. Sorry, no pics.
