What A Smile

I had the chance this past weekend to take my buddies son on his first bird hunt. Opening day was Saturday and Logan was dieing to go. He just turned 13, so by mom's rules he was allow to carry a shotgun. Belgian Browning A-5 to be exact. He has been well schooled with firearms, wounder by who ? So I knew there was not going to be any problems. How could you have any problems with a kid that was smiling when I picked him up and still had that same smile when I dropped him off at home.

Once we got to the dove field he helped me unload the cart. Then we set up a text book feeding pattern in the field.

I told Logan to just put them out as if they were eating. So he did. Pretty good job on that I must say. Once noon rolled around the birds started to flying here and there. Logan was unloading the gun on every bird and I was counting how much each bird was starting to cost me.

The day was long, costly, and we had other folks claiming out birds. All we could do was laugh. One bird is just enough to do what with ? Hope for 14 more to have a snack .

Logan laid back.

He was a little out of it when I dropped him off. Bird shooting was something that was new to him and I know he had to much fun. Because anyone that would take a shot at a bird that was looking into a 747's ****pit window was someone that was having a ball. Ya, the bird was just that high.

I told him that I might go crow hunting on Monday. Have you ever seen a youngen picks up when the sugar kicks in from candy. The boy was bouncing around like a dog with a new toy. What was I going to say, but OK , I'll pick you up.

So on Monday morning I picked him and his dad up. We drove up the road to some game lands that I had put away. Come to find out some Dove hunts knew about it to. I asked if the birds were flying and they said no. So I asked if they would mind if I called in some crow. Seeing how we were beside a cow pasture it seemed like the thing to do. (this is the point where I forgot to hit save on my phone for the pic that should go here). I think the guys at the end of the field did not get the notice about not having to wear orange. Ya they kind of stood out. The other folks did get to do some shooting though. After I figured out that this was not the place to be we moved up the road. I put out a spread (forgot to hit save on phone for pic) and the birds came in. Logan was rock-in the birds. There was not going to be a bird that wondered off, double and triple taps for each of his birds.

Here is a pic of Logan and his dad, Jeff.

Here is Logan with his first crow.

All in all Labor Day weekend turn out pretty good. I got to do some well need wing shooting. I did have a case of CHS on the dove field , but I made up for it on the crows and Logan got to go on his first Dove and Crow hunt. I sure it will not be the last.

What A Smile.

PP,

It's nice to see the photos you posted, the young blood sure looks happy. So, did he bag any doves?
