That's it, thank you for finding them. Now if I can find some purple hull shells, I think I can get my oldest girl to go back out with me.

Is that the orriginal blue on you're 16 gauge model 12? If so, it's in good shape!

All original Bob...except for the choke which I had honed out to a light modified from the factory full. Sub gauges with fulls defeat the purpose IMO. Bought that one years ago at an estate sale for a song. Original owner bought it for his wife back in the mid 50's...and apparently she used it exactly twice!

PP, them purple shells are plain old Estate's. They give me some grief as MT's hang up a bit. Seems the fired Estate hulls are a bit longer than the Winchester stuff... which cycles with no problems. Have a couple more flats to burn up and I will then go back to the Winchesters.

The Estates do throw a beautiful 30 yard pattern with 1 ounce of 8's in the gun pictured. But I don't use 16's much anymore as ammo is expensive with little selection and no decent reloadable hulls.

I used a pair of model 12 20 gauges for many years on crows, one modified, the other full choke. I had my first really good shoot with the modified model 12 before I bought the FC model 12. A guy just remembers certain things over the years. I remember it like yesterday, I shot 410 crows with 632 rounds of 20 gauge ammo and I was out of ammo with the crows still flying! I kept looking at my counter and all the emptys on the ground and almost had to pinch myself because it didn't even seem real at the time. I remember my partner Boyd Robeson said "I wish I was in on that one" when I called him on the phone that evening.

I remember another time I took off during crow season to go phesant hunting and when I got home I got a call from Boyd, he said, "do you have you're crying towel ready" he whooped 419 crows in 2 1/2 hours on a flyway shoot that afternoon. I never took off for phesants after that, my nervous system couldn't take it!

410 crows in one shoot is quite a feat Bob. You were probably glad you were shooting a 20 after capping off well over 600 rounds! As for running out of ammo, well how many guys would pack more than 6oo rounds anyway!

I shot 30 something crows...lost count a bit...in a standing sunflower field a week or two back. Thats a good shoot in these parts. Was using a 12 though and had a great blind because I didn't have to build one. Simply stood in the head high sunflower and put my caller on a stake about 20 yards upwind.

Which 20 did you prefer Bob, the mod or full?
