Night,
Any type of blind that you have to swing open will limit you shots. The objective is to shoot and not be seen. The second you flip open the doors, every bird is going to know where you are.

Hi Nightsniper,

I have both and neither work that well on crow as Mike stated.  We wear "leafy gear" and always cover everything - face, hands, guns...  Hide under trees, in brush, around equipment and your results will be better.

Regards,

I have used a layout crow hunting on a beach. I have succeeded opening it slowly and they have not noticed. Mind you I had a feeding set of decoys and they may have been watching them, and the layout was off to the side (beside a shoreline blow down tree).

The big drawback to a layout is that you are limited to about 120 degree shooting. If you are right handed, then birds hard right get a free pass and birds behind you get a free pass. Two shooters might have a better chance. Set the layouts so that you are looking in opposite directions. Any birds behind shooter A is in the field of fire for shooter B. Any hard right shots for shooter A would be in field of fire for shooter B. Assuming both are right hand.

I don't know if you can shoot behind when you are in the hayhouse. It should work in a field that has hay bales. Putting it in the middle of a corn field may work once, but crows are smart and you will have less luck the second time you use it in that field. Pack a lunch and a portable DVD player the third time you use it in the same field.

My experience and opinion

Pat

I use Cabela's TCS pants, jacket, gloves, and facemask... I am my own blind. Stick with your ghilli.

Hey Sniper
When I was into sniping them,I would set with a camo net roof over me in the shade, when they would land in the manure fields,I would pick them off. problem is after you have decoyed them and shot them in the air, sniping them just is not as exciting.no
I still zap my share at range when I am board and the chucks are not showing themselves. my best shot was 425 yards on a crow with the Swift, and 365 yards with the .17 Fireball.smile

Thanks for the insight!   You saved me alot of money and time.  When I snipe I am coverd from head to toe/Rifle.   So I took your advice and bought a HS Camo Gun Sock to cover my 1187.   Now it sounds like i need to go Kill some but have to wait till 12/15 to be legal.    Thanks again....Jeff :)

I do it a little differant.   I Ghilli up and set up  one or two Decoys.  Now I also took a Rabbit pelt with pieces of red felt(To look like blood) and sewed it to the pelt.  I set it on the ground about 75-100yrds from where im set up with a Decoy by it and another a few steps away.  I use a .22 Mag or a .223 w/40gr.VMAX.  I use a Fox Pro and use non agressive sounds to bring them in one or two at a time, they see this dead Rabbit with a Crow there and most of the time will land.  You have a minute or two to Shoot.
40 grn. Vmax at 100yds. Priceless!!!   You may not Kill 20 a day,but the ones you get make it worth while.
