Quick question for yote hunters

Actually two.

Toying with the idea of trying yote hunting. Awesome sounds on that Firestorm.
How long to you stay on station before you call it a dude and move on?
How long do you play a sound before changing to another?

I will stay up to a half hour, but somtimes an hour.,depends on the terrain. Your set up more important than the sounds or duration.I like calling cross wins so I can see the dog try to down wind the caller.Alway have good camo and your back to the sun, with good cover and shade. When the dog comes in he wlill be sweeping looking for the sound source. If you move he will see you, dont!! Wait till he looks away to adjust for the shot. I like to call intermitantly, some guys call continuous there in no wrong way.If the dog is coming in hard shut the sound off, that will stop him.You will have to find your own way for your terrain.I cant hunt dogs the way they do in videos out west. Remember you cant beat his nose, eyes and hearing so dont try, stay out of his line of smell, stay in the shade and cover and keep noise to a minimuim.I will send you a PM with more info.

Pat,
Here in ohio the fawn in distress and coyote pup distress is working them in pretty good for the early fall. I was on a hardwoods stand last weekend for about 35 minutes and nothing, so I packed up and went to another stand just about 500 yards onto another ridge and called in two only getting one female.I always start off soft for a couple minutes and then pause for a couple minutes and then back on just a little louder with the firestorm repeating the same sequence.

Key is if hunting hardwoods stay on top of the ridges where the wind blows more accurately in one direction, call the travel lanes and  mostly to the south facing slopes in the morning stands if you have located sign like tracks and scat. Another good way to locate yotes in "my area that is" is to drive out one evening just before dark and give them a couple coyote locator howles on the foxpro and that should fire them up to let you know an appoximate bedding area for morning stands,go to google earth.com and pull up some topo's of the areas that you hear the howling from and look for the bluffs, thickets, and draws and clearcuts.

Setting up a stand I have had some good results is-  on the way to your stands  make shure and double shure the wind always hits you in the face from the location of getting out of your vehicle to the stand you want to call from.I like to set the caller around 50 yards upwind below my elevation on a stand and face exactly crosswind to watch my back if I do not use a mojo critter decoy, if using motion decoys better be facing the caller and decoy because they will hard charge fast and if you blink an eye they are gone but great shotgun action as well. These are just some of the main things that have worked out for me, awe- never hunt a stand back to back weeks, give it a couple weeks before you go back into an area that you have called from or killed from and switch up your calls if and  when you do get back in the area.
take care and good luck,

Crohopper
