If you are having trouble getting permission to hunt on a land owners property, it may be that you, or someone else, has shown disrespect for the land owner. Personal property is sacred to the owner, and we all must respect this "right " that we have in this country.
I have thought-out a "Code of Ethics" that may help you get permission, when the odds may be against you. You may have some other good ideas to post on this website, that we all can use. Here goes-------
Crow Hunters Code of Ethics
1. I mmediately tell the land owner your name (and wife's name) and where you live. Extend your hand to shake his.
2. Do not wear camo clothes, unless it is unavoidable, when meeting the land owner for the first time. This is very presumptuous.
3. Call land owner "Mr." even if he is younger than you are.
4. Take your wife with you, if possible. Don't laugh, as this makes a good impression on the land owner. Married men get more respect than single men.
5. Give references of other land owners whom let you hunt.
6. Tell land owner you use a shotgun with fine bird shot, which is a short range gun, and not as dangerous as a rifle.
7. Get written permission. Use the Permission To Hunt slip on Crowbusters.com
8. Tell land owner how you plan to hunt. Run or gun, or still hunt, and explain each to him.
9. Tell him, or plan with him, when you want to hunt, so he will be expecting you.
10. Get his phone number, and give him yours.
12. See land owner, if possible, before you leave, and thank him for letting you hunt. After all, you may want to hunt there again, especiallly if you have luck.
13 Clean up carcass, your empty shells, and other trash.
If some land owner won't let you hunt during deer season because of his lease with deer or other type of hunters, ask him if you can hunt after that season is over.
Remember one thing for sure. You Never Get a Second Chance To Make a First Impression.
Good tips. Have used them or most of them myself. Have met a few farmers that don't want you shooting crows....go figure. One even threatened to end my permission for duck/goose hunting if he saw me shooting crows. Again.....go figure.
