Today's crow hunt results/ A great morning it was!

I went out this morning to a new field, Fixed up the blind put out the spread & buster, and set in for a morning of shooting. At first light I tried something completely different this hunt and yes it worked very well with excellent results Thank you "shanedog" for sharing this tip with me in one of my previous posts.

I Started off with some soft calling with my handcall once I heard the crows waking up off in a distance and had several loners and about 7 small groups coming in for the first 30 minutes or so, I then hit the Ecaller "group gathering" and a couple more larger groups of 15-20 birds came in I shot a double on this one,and for last I saved the "crow fight" call and here come a couple more larger groups swooping in everywhere, and believe it or not I missed two birds that I could feel some serious wind off there wings flying by my blinddisbelief. Although I had one bird way up there dive bombing in and I shot it head on and it went through the blind cover in the rear of the blind crashing things all up!Had to take a little time out for blind repairsbiggrin

Will have to work on the close 5 yard range shots a little more I see that right now however I was alot more accurate today with shooting 65 shells and killing 30 birds so I'm pretty tickled and was only able to retieve 28 as two landed in the creek behind the blind. A couple things I did different on this hunt compaired to my last couple times out is:

I used a mouth call for about the first 30 minutes in the hunt which alloud several smaller groups to come in to investage (been practicing my hand calls).

Built a better blind with a top backdrop to cover the rear of the blind and to hide my backside and top movement.

And last but not least I think am shooting alot better and making better shots and following through with my swing, just getting the feel of the gun and leading the birds a little more solid.

I forgot the camera to show you all field pics, but when I got home my wife took pics of the aftermath. I was in my blind for a total of 1hr 57 minutes and it felt like I just got there! Great time Great Fun! Man I want to go again in the morning! Will have to see.

Great job CRO!!!! I love it when you have to do the two step to avoid falling crows!!!biggrin  I like having a partial roof on my back of the blind,it creats shadows so I can get away with more movement and the birds really come in close. Weather its crows or coyotes shadows are the best camo,it really messes up their eyes.smile
