Hey All Me and my buddy Brian and My Dad went goose huntin today, nice weather,we had pizza for lunch and we got some geese, should had more but we screwed up the first time they came in. Any way I fired a grand total of two shells!!!!!!!!!! Well here is the SAD part,we were hunting in one of my crow hot spots and the place was just sick with crows all day long, sun up to sun down!! It was a sad afair,I broke down after lunch and my compadres had to give me a IV of CROWZAC,then I tried to take a nap and the crows just would not shut up!!I really wanted to run home and get my crow stuff but here in the PEOPLES REPUBLIK you can not have lead at all hunting geese, what a bunch of crap!!! I could have had my twenty gauge loaded for crows and my 1187 (Dad adopted my new Benelli,I dont think its coming back)any way my 1187 could be loaded with steel in the off chance that a goose may fly in.Sorry I did not get pictures, but by the end of the day I was frothing at the mouth and convulsing, they weighed me down with decoys in the back of the truck to get me home.I think I am going to be okay,I am going down to the reloading room to plot my revenge. Satan's birds will pay!!! No really I will be okay!! I think.

shane; we can't carry lead while waterfowling in NY either, dosen't make any sense cause if you get stopped they wand your birds to make sure you aren't using lead. Hunted crows on the mohawk river today & saw more ducks & geese than crows, I just had lead (go figure) Lots of buffleheads & blacks, that cold weather last week must have got them going. Not much open water left, even on the rivers. Don't think I'd do it yet, but there were guys ice fishing on the river today.
Shane, For years my crow shooting was a target of opportunity when goose hunting. Lots of holes in the pattern with BBB and T's for a crow and expensive, especially out of my 10 ga. I carry a few 2 shot for a crow. Still big shot but, better than nothing when things are slow. You can pick up some cheap steel loads and sometime multi packs with a rebate. Its worth carrying some so you won't need the I.V. I still wanting a SX3 or a Maxus in 3 1/2 so I can put away the heavy 10 ga.
Shanedog, you're a better man than me. i popped at one just after light in the duck blind,my buddies thought i'd lost it. maybe i did, just could'nt stand it!
Most big box stores in these parts carry Win Xpert low brass steel game/target loads in 6's and 7's. They are usually around 5.99 per box. I think it would be a wise investment for the situation you described.
In my experience, the 6's are better. Steel just does not pack the punch lead does.
Thanks guys,I am looking into some, and I may pick up bag of steel shot and try some reloads,I guess I am more mad that I did'nt set up for crows in the first place,I would have had shooting from sun up to sun down,no wind and warm alll day. I will be okay,I think the group hug did the trick.

Shaddart, how can they tell by wanding if it's steel or lead?
I use a metal detector on my ducks and geese after breasting them out so I don't bite down on any. The detectoe will show any metal including lead.
Maybe theirs is fancy enough to tell the difference between lead and steel??
I heard stories of "THE MAN" carrying a magnet to check your shells. Only 1 time was I ever approached. He was nice as could be , didn't check a thing and even allowed us to shoot a spot that was not normally available to hunt.
