Preparing Dekes for Flocking
Permalink

I'm getting ready to flock my dekes and I'm wondering how to prepare them.  They have been used a lot and are dirty.  I was thinking about running them through the dish washer but I figured that would deform them.  What are you guys doing to prep your dekes for flocking?

Hi Charles,

I use the dishwasher for such things, when the wife is out of the house.  Just take them out before the drying cycle and you should be fine.

after u clean them, rub them lightly with fine grit sandpaper. I'm assuming ur painting them & then putiing the flocking on, using the paint as ur adhesive.

Alchol or aceatone are good sovlents as they don't leave residues like some other solvents.

i like the alchol better than acetone as acetone is some nasty stuff. I wouldnt trust it on my decs as I have seen it eat plastic at work. I actually use it at work to buff/melt the edges of plastic. JMO.

My dishwasher can be set so the drying cycle doesn't come on. (I use this feature all the time so it doesn't waste electricity.)

PS- What Tammy doesn't know, won't hurt her. biggrin

My dishwasher stopped working so I smacked her on the butt and told her to get back to work!  Just kidding...haha

Watch Em and I have about 30 some plastic dekes and have talked about flocking them but haven't yet.  We have four flocked dekes that look way better than the plastic ones.  We keep experimenting to see if they actually make a difference.  I think they do.  The crows will sometimes come in to about 50 yards and then they are like...WOOO....plastic birds..abort mission..haha.. BUT other times they come right over.  Just hard to know for sure.

Now with the leaves off and the snow on the ground... decoying (and hiding) is REALLY tough, so Watch Em and I are saying the heck with the decoys and we are praticing our running and gunning (no dekes).  That should make our buddy Skip Woody happy....haha.

Haha....I know, I know.

I spoke with Skip yesterday and told him I made mention of him on Crow Busters...but he is the VERY best when it comes to running and gunning.  I try to absorb as much info as possible from him.

OOPS!  sorry about that..  I thought you said my LAST sentence...not my first.

Yes, I am a brave person to make the dishwasher comment...but it is funny.  Kinda like me not getting my wife a watch for Christmas because there is a clock on the stove..

I am ONLY kidding guys.  My wife is the VERY VERY best and tolerates me and NEVER says a word when I am in the outdoors crow, coyote, deer, turkey, etc. hunting.  I am spoiled..seriously.
