Calling crow with your mouth

I think I have 8 posts now.... so maybe I am a member of the inner circlesmile  I HOPE!

Who has called in crows with their mouth?  I called my buddy on the phone the other night and told him it was that time of the year.

I gave him a Caw Caw Caw Caw, Grr,  Grr,  Grr, Grr,  Yep Yep Yep Yep.

I know I'm crazy but it was a fun voice mail!

I've shot many crow calling with my own mouth.  If you practice make sure your wife or friends are not around.  HAA

When I was a teenager, I would do this when I could not find a squirrel to shoot. I can't do it now, guess my voice changed.

I called one in with my mouth and my kid dropped it with a rock.

It works, but when you´re back from a successfull hunting day you´ll know: "The most common cause of throat soreness is prolonged shouting, screaming, or some other type of vocal abuse." wink

I've had a little success with it, but my throat always hurts so bad afterward, that I avoid it when possible. Now, I just do it when I want to make someone think I'm a little odd. I've probably killed fewer than 5 using the technique.

I call crows with my voice all the time.

When I have the FoxPro on and for some reason they just ang up out of range, I use my voice and that will convince them.

Doesn't hurt my throat.

I saw once on YouTube I believe, some dude calling in crows with only his mouth. I have called them in by mouth a few times by using a "croaking" raven type call. During the nesting season crows hate ravens as ravens will raid crow nests of eggs and young.

Further to this, I did on one occation call in crows with a duck call. Tried to put crow sounds through the call which sounded real strange. I think the crows came in to investigate the strange calling...only to be met with a couple charges of 5 shot!

Ted,
I agree that its probably curiosity more than them thinking its a crow. Afterall, they respond to all types of calling sounds, not just crow sounds. I noticed they respond very well to FoxPro's Chicken Distress.

Yes Sir Matt. I've had crows come into FoxPro magpies fighting, numerous rabbit distress calls as wellsmile.

If I was a smoker the mouth call would kill me...My chewing tabacco habit does not effect the mouth call... but I need to quit  ashamed
