Those #@%^!&* Fish Crows!

Went out this morning and had another try with the local fish crow population.  I must have seen 500 fish crows in several groups flying by.  True to form, they decoy in (high), circled around (especially when I mimicked their normal "flight call" (for lack of a better term), but wouldn't come down to shooting range with my normal crow calls.  They just circled around the setup, staying high the whole time.  We did manage to tag a few of them, though, collecting a total of 11 birds.

The really maddening part came as we were breaking up our blind, etc.  We had the decoys put away, the blind half broken down and the truck in full view next to the blind while we worked.  Two different groups of 10-12 fish crows flew in from across the field low enough to shoot!  Our guns were put up, but we managed to get one crow from each group.  Dang!

How did they know the guns were put up???  Why wouldn't they come in low when everything was set up perfectly and we were well hidden???  Does anyone know the proper fish crow calls that they will respond to??  Could it be that the GHG oversized decoys are TOO big for fish crows???

Help me if you can!

I.S.

IS, Okay, 1st rule: never not have your gun with you..When you "P" or anytime, never not have your gun with you..
Next, ask your self the question: Have you ever seen fish crows feeding where your hunting them?
Check out the 3 fish crows we shot with brown feathers mixed in..

Polishhammer and I had one land in the decoy spread without us seeing it, we stood up to stretch and it flew. WE missed that s0b 6 shots, now we are both in the blind laughing asking each other how the h-ll did that bird come in over an open field without one of us seeing it? Memories fellows, that is why I go as often as I can. I remember something from every trip and some trips create multiple memories. There is nothing better than a day in a crow blind with your best friend(s). I live for those times and look forward to more. Even if I don't fire a shot I feel lucky to be able to go!
