For the future.... I guess I need to pony up and spend the cash on a Fox Pro call. Problem is...... which one? I see so many..... like the Fury, Spitfire, Snow Crow Pro, and others..... but which one is "good enuff"? I like to pack in 50-75 decoys ........ hanging most in trees with a pool pole with hangers and cuurently use a Lohman 10watt speaker hooked to a Radio Shack mini amplifier/speaker driven by a MP3 player with a repeat on it. It seems that the way to go seems to be the Fox Pro. Couple of questions may help to resolve my issues.
1) Can the Fox Pro play MP3's as well as the FXP's....or are you limited to just FXP's? Can you play both loaded on the player at the same time... .. with the ability to call upon them at any time?
2) I need one that can be loud to draw them from across a river...... and soft enuff to draw their attention to the setup once they are here.
I know there are alot of crow hunters who use them.......some opinions would be awesome to help me fix the one troubling issue I have had..... the right e-caller would be a great piece of the puzzle solved.
Yes, the foxpro models that I am familiar with will play both MP3s and FXPs interchangeably while both loaded at the same time.
I personally have the FX3 with an external speaker and battery. My unit does fine by me but if I were to do it again I'd look hard at the CS-24 unit. They were not available when I made my purchase years back.
For the ultimate in crow calling volume, I suggest their Snow Crow Pro II. That being said the Fury works fine in many situations. The Prairie Blaster is another good option - more volume than the Fury but less cost than the SCP.
We typically use the SCP II with a Fury or PB for back-up. When it is windy, the SCP II generates and sustains the volume needed to pull them in from a long way out.
I am not personally familiar with the CS-24 unit, but the SCP II is the powerhouse of the FoxPro lineup. If you ever need it, you will find FoxPro support to be world class, too.
I have the Fox Pro Firestorm which is a new model they came out with. It is in the $500 range which is less that some of the other models mentioned but its works really well for me.
