Paul...... living in the heart of Florida, near Gainesville. I am an undertaker who enjoys surf fishing and hunting. Tough job, so I need some releases. Usually that means being outdoors and as far away from needy people as I can get. Nothing like being alone in God's creation and hanging out with all of his little critters.

I had shot a few crows in my early years, now 48 years old. Mostly it was dumb luck that one happened to fly near enough. I did figure out some tricks though, like openly walking along, then quickly hiding. Crows love to do survellance and usually if you suddenly disappear one will come a lookin for yah. They are so suprised when they finally spot you, that it is a can't miss shot for a 12 gauge.

Yesterday it was cold and raining at the house. A big crow perched himself in the tippy top of a tall pine tree behind the house. I watched him and thought about it, but decided he would soon be gone. After five minutes of cawing, I couldn't stand it any longer. I grabbed for my air rifle, a .22 magnum springer type. He just sat there as I lined him up through the laser range finder...78 yards. Next I lined him up through the 16x scope and held over four mildots....squeezed the trigger and.....darn safety was on. Lined him up again and.....fired. It took a few moments for the pellet to fly its way to him, and I saw some movement....then came that POP that says hit. I could even hear the sound of the feathers. He flew away, but didn't get far. I ran over to him and collected my trophy.

I thoroughly enjoyed that, and yes it is a trophy to me. The dogs liked it, too. They ran around playing chase with it. There was joy in Mudville all around.

Our season ends soon, so I set out some corn and sunflowers in the hopes of attracting at least one more. Cagey little devils they are.

Anyways....thought I should sign in and share. I look forward to learning from you folks. There is a large murder of crows in my area and the flock is about 50 birds large. But it is only a few that hang out regularily. Soon they will get very wise to me and my doings. LOL

The thought of being able to call them excites me. Never had much luck doing it before. Thinking about ordering the DVD and call package from the store.  I plan on using air rifles mostly, and plan to read all the articles you have available here on the site. I love a challenge.....and with their intelligence....I believe I have just found one.

Paul, welcome to Crow Busters.

We have a friend up here in Maine that's an undertaker, he goes ice fishing with us for his distraction.

Must have been fun whacking that crow at a long distance with an air rifle.

Keep hunting,

Kev

Ain't that the truth.  But to me even better is being out there with my hunting partner PP.

Thinking about ordering the DVD and call package from the store.

well worth the $
