I normally hunt a flyway within 2 miles of a landfill on weekdays. Results generally run between a dozen and 50 crows per trip. Went to the area this past Sunday and the crows were totally absent. I presume that the crows didn't use the landfill because the garbage was not present on the weekend days. We drove around in a 10 mile radius and saw very, very few crows. Anyone else observed this on weekends around landfills?
I can say without saying that some of the areas that I have might have been scouting are around such areas. The birds have been present when the trash was flowing freely but on Sundays and my drive-bys the birds seam to be few. Now granted we can not hunt on Sundays so for me , its not big deal. I just have got to figure out how to shoot the crows over the folks that are unloading their vehicles.
Now at the plant, when house keeping dumps the trash, the birds have it on a time clock. Heck, I have had them tear open bags of trash sitting in the bed of my truck. Now when the 30 yard dumpster are empty , there is not a bird around.
I hunt a land fill next to a river, as long as theres snow on the ground the birds are there in large numbers everyday. If there isn't snow we've found that it's loaded one day & nothing on other days, just figure that they're feeding in corn fields or someplace. I find that the most birds are at the dump on sun. & mon. when it's closed. The place holds thousands of birds, but most of them come across the river at the same height as the top of the dump, so are way to high, fun easy place to hunt though. Jerry
