Went out this morning with my buddy with the temp at 0 and the windchill at -15. I never hunted crows in weather this cold but it wasn't bad. We killed 32 crows in the first hour and half of light but should have killed twice as many. We had so many layers of clothes on that we had an off day shooting. Has anyone else had much success in cold weather like this. I thought it was better being that most of the crows came in groups of 1 to 5 throughout the morning.
My buddy, (Charles on here) and I went out Saturday in crotch deep snow. Cold too. We called in lots of crows but only shot a couple. We didn't take dekes with us and they stayed up too high to shoot.
We're going back out in less than an hour. About 25 degrees and about a 15-20 mph wind straight out of the west.
I thought that we were screwed at first. We usually have 20-30 crows come in right away when when I turn on the caller but I had it on for over 5 minutes and not one crow came in. But after about 15 minutes they came in small groups throughout the morning and ended up being a pretty good hunt. I liked this much better being that we didn't educate the large group that usually comes in first thing.
Sounds like time well spent to me Gearly65! Did you find your ammo packs less of a punch in below zero conditions? I have found this when hunting in extreme cold conditions.

I know what you mean about not being able to shoot good with all the clothes on. Season before last me and my son was duck hunting a little hole about 100 yards long and maybe 25 yards wide. It was the only open water in the intire creek arm. It was 5 degrees an we had groups of 50 and 75 come in 3 times. I killed one mallard and one green wing teal. My poor boy was bundled up like ralphie's little brother on the CHRISTmas story. He couldnt hardley even get the gun to his shoulder much less shoot. Poor little fella didnt even draw a feather.
Glad you boys put the smack down on some winter time crows. This is the first year I have gotten into crow hunting after duck season closed. Im gonna do it more this year. My biggest thing about really cold weather is I hate gloves but my feet get so cold they hurt. Toasty toes foot warmers are a must.
