I broke a thousand today!!!biggrinbiggrinbiggrin I needed 19 for a total kill of 1000. I shot 35 times and killed 22. Pictured is the lucky winning customer and then a few of his buddies.  This is a total 1000 for all the hunts I have been on with the other hunters included as we haven't figured out how to keep track of individuals crows. My partner has killed several hundred more but I was not on those hunts.

Had another piebald come in today but could not get a shot. That's two piebalds in two days and no shotsno A few minuets later I killed one with DARK brown wings. The color was too suddle for the cell phone camera to pick up but it was neat.

Congratulations "8" on killing a thousand this season and a great achievement it is! I too have a tough time keeping track of individual kills during a furious shoot. I often start to loose count after 10 or 11 and usually do a quick body count of birds laying in the open after the shoot. Plenty drop into heavy cover and often don't make the count. Some of the "hardcores" use a clicker I believe, which is not a bad idea if an exact count is important to you.smile

that is what i was going to ask today how do people keep a "good " count when crows are raining down. when 2 of use are shooting  it is had to keep track. shooting a sideXside( i have to handle all shells) i just  put the empty hulls from birds i hit in the caller bag and the ones i miss i put on the ground next to the bag. when all done i count hit to miss.  10 ga.

Congradulations on hitting that 1000 mark.  That is a great achievement for any of us to be really enveous of achieving.  I would gladly trade you some of my snow from here, for some of the green grass that you have in your area!!  Hope next season is even better for you.

I started using a counter on my blackberry, I use it to control the caller anyway. A clicker would be great. I know Bob uses one. If more that just me is hunting I just count all the birds that hit the ground no matter who shoots them. We pick up the birds in the fields but the one that hit the woods we leave where they are. Our pics never have all the dead birds in them. I had folks with me on less that half of the thousand. I had rather have my buddy with me and give up some shooting that go by myself and have them all to myself.

I talked to my shooting partner this afternoon. He has killed another 250 this season without me.

I'm with Marv I'd trade my shotgun for that green grass, we had another foot of snow yesterday, I think that bring us to around 80 inches this winter. That's more than most years, but it still sucks, really gona screw up the river fishing in March.

Super job!

That crow in the first photo looks brown on the breast, throat, and where the wings join the body.

Charles and I have been shooting those same Federal shells. He likes the 7 and a 1/2s like you have there, I like the #8s. Ever try the 8s?

Sick of winter,

Kev

Skip,

This was my first crow season and the first time was on opening day of deer season with guns. We killed 68 that day. After that, I gave up deer hunting this season even after I went to all the trouble to plant food plots! I am Doomed!!!!disbelief

Hey Kev,

I am starting to get the feeling your are sick of winter!

That bird had some brown in it. The one I was talking about was a good bit browner than it though. I should have put it beside a black one to show the contrast. Didn't have time. Several in that group had some brown in them. Must be a family group trait or something.

What makes you think I'm sick of winter??biggrin (I'm REALLY sick of winter!)

I have seen one up here that had a little brown on it. The other day Charles and I drove around scouting, we passed a house and in the yard there was a crow in a tree that had a lot of white in one wing. Like, 2/3 of the wing was pure white. I would love to drop that one.

Get you a counter at a sporting goods store 8, 10 bucks at Hibits, carry it in your bag and tally em at the end of every hunt. If they hit the ground they go on the clicker, if they are in your pic at the end of the hunt thats great if they aint, well coyotes gotta eat same as the worms!!biggrin
