I'm trying to obtain some of the old style carrylite crow decoys with feet. I don't think they have made them for several years now. I think they were actually made by Sportplast from Italy. These are the ones with the flat foot bases that measure about 5" wide by 2.5" front to back. They were a stocky type of decoy with a touch of blue on the shoulders. Does anyone know where I can get some?
Shadow...I may have 3-5 of the decoy you are speaking of. Mine are the largest crow decoy I ever saw. I don't believe Knutsons has what you are looking for. I have bought some from Knutsons and they are not the Carrylite that I have. I will check tomorrow, Wednesday, and contact you via this web site. Or, you can e-mail me at>>> kenjcrotts@yahoo.com.....or phone me at 336-775-2987. Ken
Thanks for the info guys. I'll check out knutson decoys. As far as the really big ones, I think they are the newer model from Carrylite that I call ravens because they are huge. I bought some in the past thinking they were the old style after the switch because most of the distributors still had the old picture, but the new style. The huge decoys aren't very good. They are way too big to carry many, and they are horrible to get to stand, especially in harder ground. The old style was great because they work nicely on frozen or hard ground, as we have here in Pa for much of our hunting.
I could only find the new style on Knutson's site. The old style is about 9" high by about 15"long. So far my search seems to continue. Any more help is appreciated. By the way, I liked the pun using the proper term murder for the group of crows.
i have seen some similiar to that on ebay too. always thought it was an old timey thing. lol also thought they would b hard to stand up. mine have just the plastic spike on the bottom.
Thanks Nysprintfan. Let me know when you post it and how to find it, or let me know how much you are looking for and maybe we can skip the bidding. Are you sure they are the old style?
They were probably one of the best crow decoy designs, superior in some ways to the familiar flambeau decoy. The wide feet allow you to stand them up on frozen ground, the feet are detachable and a plastic rod with a hook is stored in body that could be used to hang it feetless from a tree limb.
Yes,I know I have three of them,I toss the feet and leave the rod in,frozen ground I drill holes with a chordless drill, then you dont have to worry about the wind flipping them over.

I agree with nhcrowshooteer. They were one of the best designs for putting several dozen out in frozen ground, and because they are stocky in style it takes a strong wind to knock them over. In high winds, I usually put a small stone on them or hook them with corn stubble to keep them from blowing over, but I only have a dozen of them. I think they also add a little different look when mixed with the Flambeau ones. I also have a dozen silhouettes that add some motion on breezy days, but they too are difficult to use in frozen ground. Also on calm days, they sit nicely on a lot of fence posts along pastures. They only drawback I have with that old style is that they are a little more fragile in that you can break the legs easily if you are not a little careful. That's why I would like to get some more.
I have the same decoys and cussed them for several years.. I finally came up with a modification that works better than I could imagine.. I ended up installing a piece of maple up in the square hole in the bottom of the decoy and putting a screw in the top to hold it in place.. I use a 1/4" fiberglass rod ~12" long to push into the ground..Works like a champ in hard soil etc.. I'll attach a photo. for a better explanation
Here is a picture of the wood "insert." I used hard maple..It measures 18mm x 13mm x 180mm. The hole in the end is ~60mm deep and is 1/32" larger than the 1/4" fiberglass rod.. The angle of cut is ~30 degrees (I think) to match the slope of the decoy... The mod works great as you can push the sharpened fiberglass rod into the ground with the decoy and easily remove by hand...
Our locale Scheels has some of the carrlites and they are very large... I mainly use stake type decoys, G & H and Flambeau. I made a hole hammer though that regardless if the the ground is froze like it normally is I can have my decoys out fast and easily. If you have access to a welder and grinder you can make one of these in a few minutes.
What I used to do was carry an electric drill with me and use a drill bit to match the dia of the stake on the crow decoy. Easy as pie setting up a ground set on frozen ground like that.

Yes, I have perhaps 60 to 70 of the old Carry-Lites with the detatchable legs. I even have a couple of dozen old "Rock Crow Decoys" still in use, the Rock Crow and Evers decoys out of PA were the best of the best, you could run em over with the pickup and they would be ok! One tough bunch of crow decoys. I have about a dozen brand new, still in there original wrap "Rock Crow Decoys" from the 1960's.
That fella who is looking for the old Carry-Lites can contact Jerry Tomlin in Georgia. I traded him about 40 old Carry-Lite decoys for services rendered. Jerry sells them on the internet.

I almost forgot, if you go to the Foxpro Web site go to the Bob Aronsohn photo gallery look on page two. I have a photo of an old Carry-Lite crow decoy in paper mache' before they made them in plastic. This decoy was from the 1950's.
