Got access to Pistachio Farm

I just got access to hunt a pistachio farm this weekend. This will be my 1st crow hunt on Private Property. Should be pretty fun and hopefully get more crows than I have been seeing on public land.

Taking my 11 year old Daughter who just got her license saturday.

PS: What size shot should we use? 6 or 7.5? hahahaha, just kidding

Got the name back in high school. We were partyin on my friends boat one night and I used to get pretty loud and mouthy when I drank hahaha. I was sayin some pretty inappropriate stuff to this one girl. She was a good sport about it, but gave me the name DIRTY DAVE.

Makeup is from halloween a few years ago

Went to the Pistachio Farm today. We were a little unprepared and went out there last minute. Only had a couple decoys and no blind. AND NO CAMERA.... I ALWAYS FORGET SOMETHING!
The place has never been hunted, they have just been trying to scare them with a starters pistol.
Well we went out and got aquainted with the owner and BS'd for a while. We also got permission to hunt rabbits and squirrels on his property. Drove around and checked out the orchards and realized it didnt really matter where we set up, they were everywhere. Not anything like they were in Oct when I first drove by this property though, but thats going to take a Dep. permit for the fall harvest. They were all over the property in small groups.
We set up at about noon and had a pretty steady stream of crows coming in for the 2 hours that we were set up. I did not do much shooting cuz I wanted my daughter to get some on her first time out. We were not using a blind, just sitting on stools in front of a clump of bushes. The birds were pretty interested in the decoys but a lot of them were staying in the 40-60yd range. My daughter nailed one that came in to about 25yds with the 20ga. She was so excited and wanted to immediatley go out and check out her downed bird.
I was happy with the day right there.

Next time we head out there, we will take it a bit more serious and use a blind, e-caller, and more decoys. This trip was to get in good with the owner and get my daughter her 1st kill... Mission Accompished.

Thats great man, I love to hear about guys gettin the kids out there.  It makes them more rounded people to see what hunting is about from an early age.

darn big crows too.

btw if you wore that makeup to the pistachio orchard, you wouldn't need a gun.
