FEEDING CALLS,YOUR THOUGHTS

I have always thought the "feeding call" was a fast real "Ca Ca  -then real short caws strung out for maybe five times or more.I have come to this conclusion watching crows come into fields to feed early in the morning over the years. I use this call a lot with great success,I do not use hand calls for hard calling or distress calls, because I had a throat injury that makes my voice box expell to much air,so I get dizzy if I do to much hand calling. But the short feeding calls work for me bigtime.   What do you all think? I have also wondered why the guys like Johnny Stewart and so on never had feeding call sounds.

Do not chime in and try to give me tips on how you think I should be calling, very few people in my area can best me at prey sounds and coyote vocals with an open reed call. The problem is that I have a damaged right vocal chord that does not tighten up as its supposed to.So as I growl in to the call,I suspect it gets worse, letting more air out. So dont give me a disertaion on how to control the air with my diaphram.no

Also I dont want to hear what sounds work for you, your interpretation of the "feeding call" only.

Shane,
I too have heard this short "ca ca". I have also heard a slightly longer "ca" but not as long as a regular "caw". When I count the number of "ca's" it's usually 5. My take is : hey guys ... found something to eat.

Shane, your feeding call that you describe is exactly what I do with my voice. ie; 2 quick and 3-6 long caws in a row. ca-caw.......cawwwwww, cawwww, cawwww, cawwww, cawwwwww.

It works great for me as a general get their attention call. Often times when using any sound on my FoxPro, I will add this "feeding call" with my voice and it will be the one thing that will bring them in.

Shane,

It took me a few minuets to find this link but here is a recording of a crow that is about to feed.

http://www.crows.net/language.html

Click the sonogram to hear the sample.

I have also seen something simular to this somewhere else that started with the 2 quick caws and then followed into 5 or 6 longer caws like in the sound clip.
