Wow, our season ends this mid-week so I planned on hunting yesterday, temps in the mid 20's with the wind around 40mph steady and much higher gusts. Still the same temps and wind today.
Crow hunting is over for me until August...........
Usually with winds like that I don't go out to try for crows. 1) Most, not all, are hunkered down until the wind passes. Some will still be out cause their hungry, but most will try waiting. 2) With them going with the wind, you got a small target traveling just below Warp Speed. 3) Light shot (9,8.7,7.5,6,5) will get blown around. When I goose hunt in wind like that I step from #2 to BB to fight that wind.

And yes, it does bite the big one.
Pat
It sure does Pat, my behind hurts from sitting around all weekend watching television.
I hear you Kevin,I was out trying to get on a fly way yesterday in the afternoon, and the wind caused them to shift away from my position. I did get a good shoot in the morning with a feeding set up at a farm close to my house in the morning,I did very little calling, just let the dekes do the work,I did have one dumb azz crow come in while I was picking up the dekes, with my truck there!! I had enough time while he was circling to run grab a shell and jack it into the gun and shoot!!! I got him!!

Shane, I should have gone out and tried it, but I did that 2 weeks ago in this same temp and wind and after sveral hours I only had 3 crows. Ridiculous.......
All done here in NY also, tomorrows the last day until Sept 1.. Most of the flocks are gone anyway. Shot a bunch of pheasants yesterday (17) with my boys & buddies. It was a release hunt on a preserve, never did it before & don't think I'll do it again. The best part of the day was watching the lab work. Gona miss the crows for the summer, but starting to get some fish, so it's not all bad.

Shaddart,
Our season comes back in August and September. Now if our lakes would get the ice out.........

Kev, we're just starting to see some of the smaller ponds open up, fished the Hudson River 3x already. Not doing a whole lot, but are getting a few big carp on black jigs with twister tails. considering all the snow we've had, the rivers in pretty good shape. Getting most of our fish on a going tide. Carp are always the 1st action of spring, & they're big, most between 15 to 25#s. So far no northers or smallies, but it'll start to happen pretty quick. Fishing from shore, kinda like surf casting, still way to cold to be out in the boat, water still in the mid 30s. Jerry
Holy cow, 20 degrees this time of year! Its been in the 70s here in Tn for the last 2 weeks except maybe 2 or 3 days. I was in wisconsin in 94 and 95 and I didnt take any long sleeves or pants or a jacket. I cant remember what month it was but it was in the mid 80s here and when I got up there it was 40 degrees. I froze my A$$ off. Our season closed on the last day of febuary and it doesnt open till june 1st so Im off for a while. Wish I was in Maine despite it being cold as crap. I know it gets really cold up there but try june july and august in Tn its so flippin hot it almost make me believe in purgatory, and Im in it! At least your season is open longer than ours. Good luck with the wind, its been blowin like crazy here too and its making it hard to fish but they bite a little better.

A SUPER 90 and a crow in range, life is good. A good sandwich and bag of M&Ms doesnt hurt either.
We had a blast of Gobal Warming here too with wind chills in the teens each morning. Hunting the end of March using hand warmers and propane heater in the blind is ridiculous. Shot a few on Saturday and called it quits early yesterday because the wind chill was brutal and the crows were not flying. Things wrap up on 3/31, hope to a shoot a few more but this has been the best winter/spring season we have ever had.

Mainer,
It pisses me off that crows are closed in October up there! When it gets too hot to hunt woodc-ck- it WACKS IT!! It would be nice to side line some crows!!

Even up here, we have been having weather in the 90's through July and August.
Yea I was in the Millinocket area bear hunting opening week 90's!! Thank man for Therma cell!!
A few years ago I was in Florida, in the summer, bow hunting for hog. The guide suggested that we bring a Therma Cell with us. We had never heard of them, but we took his advice and we all bought one. Thamk God we did, those mosquitos almost killed us when it wasn't turned on.I thought we had bad mosquitos and black flies up here, but WOW, down in those swamps............
