Johnny Stewart Preymaster Call

Looking for a first call.  Was considering this one.  I am looking at using it for crows and coyotes.  Does anyone have an experience with one or any suggestions on other calls around that price.

Welcome From Mississippi!

No experience on the JS Preymaster. Some one else will chime in on it.

Save your bucks, and go with one of the Fox Pro line, in the long run you will be better off,and you can add your own sounds with your computor. The remotes are lite years better. And as for coyotes Fox Pros new Mark 2 and old sound library have killer yote vocs!  So if your season is closed for a while, save up. The Johnny Stewart caller your looking at is an okay caller but its technoligy is dated to say the least.smile

arctic,

The wire is a pain in the butt. Go with remote control if it is in the budget.

I googled the image link where the OP's attachment failed to show. It looks like it would have been a picture of a JS PM-3. I think the question is best phrased I only have so much to spend and what is the best e-caller for that price? The PM-3 can be had for $80 to $90. Limitations, it's not wireless and the sound only plays for a minute per hit of the button. If one has only $100 or less to spend a FoxPro is out of the question and I would think a functioning used cassette caller would be a better choice for the extended play time it would provide.

I've been using the pm3 for 3 years now, & i'm quite satisfied with it. I have all 3 of the cards for it, which is a pretty good mix, I like that you can play multiple sounds at once. I'm sure the foxpro is better, but I don't have any experience with it, the pm3 3 is the only one I've ever used. Does anyone know if I can add an amplifier to it, I would like a little more volume.

If you are only an occasional crow hunter then the PM product may fit your needs.

If you crow hunt quite a bit every year then do yourself a favor and save up some cash to get a good unit right from the start. Otherwise, you'll spend $100 on the PM and then a year or two down the road you'll be spending hundreds more on a more powerful unit.

That's my .02.

I evaluated this product to carry it at Crowmart. It did not have enough power to drive the sound for crow hunting. Therefore; decided not to carry it. I believe they now make amps for them. I have not tried the new set up so can't advise. Crowmart

Given the current economy, $4 gallon gas and diesel, 9% unemployment, fear of layoffs etc, when a fella says he only has $100 or so to spend on an e-caller I believe him and understand, the advise given here IMO should include other options besides "save your money" "spring for the FoxPro" "you should have a wireless caller"etc.

As suggested the JS PM-3 might work for light use, building your own e-caller, or buying a working used cassette caller are the $100 or less options.

NH ,is right,a boom box with a cassete will blow that PM3 away and you can jury rig more speakers to boot.

I have the Foxpro Fury and love it! You can purchase and add sounds via your computer and the remote is light years better than dealing with wires. They are a little expensive but the customer service is great and they last.

Thanks for all your replies and advice. Going to pass on the Preymaster. The cord seemed like it was going to be a pain to deal with and I wasn't sure about the volume. I am going to keep my eye out for a Foxpro unit. Looks like the way to go. By the time I bought the Preymaster and the 3 crow cartridges it would be about the price of a spitfire. Thanks again guys.

If you go to the Foxpro website and to the Forums they have a section where you can purchase used ones from people that have upgraded.. just a thought

I have a Preymaster/corded and it has plenty of volume. I also have a Spitfire, I like them both but the Preymaster is much louder than the Spitfire

Thanks you for your input between the two models.  Glad I have until August to make a decision.  Your replies are very helpful.
