That looks like a very old model 12 in the photo, do you know what year it was made? The butt stock looks like an old model to me. So how long do you hunt crows, spring into summer? Thats a nice shot with the snow, model 12 & dead crows in the frame.

Bob, the M12 in the photo is indeed a rather old example, manufactured in 1929 according to Riffles book. Last of the nickle steel guns and the stock is a "perch belly" style as they are called...for whatever reason? It has apparently been in the family since just the after the war when it was purchased second hand. Back in the 80's I had it tuned, few worn parts replaced and re-blued. A true testament to the durability and quality of the M 12 Win. No wonder why Winchester went broke! For some reason I have alway shot very well with that old plain Jane as it points very well. Killed a lot of birds with it.

Further, I hunt crows right from mid March when there are enough birds around to make it worth while, through the summer and into the fall before they all pack up and move south in October. Once breeding season starts the crows are really spread out and large kills are impossible. Crows gather in big groups in August and September and are easy prey as most have never been shot at. No closed seasons here, limits or restrictions of any kind.

Hi Ted,

I still shoot a 20 gauge model 12 on quail, it's bored WS-1 with a 26 inch barrel. I either shoot a 7/8th ounce load of 8"s or 9's on quail. The balance of the model 12 Winchester and the way they point is superb in my opinion.

Gadget Bob loves the model 12's as do many other guys. He had a photo on the bulletin board of one he bought recently with a cutts compensator at the end of the muzzle.

The model 12 Winchester, the model 31 Remington and the Browning BPS model are among the slickest pumpers ever made.

Hi Bobby,

If you can zoom in on my avatar one of my model 12's is in front of the dog,its a 3" 30" barrell,I just had Seminole screw in chokes installed in it,they are "THE SEEDS"! it also has a simmons rib on it,you just can't beat 'em!!!
