Flocked Decoys and Ears of corn?

I am tooling up for Crow season here in Indiana.  I ordered some Flocked decoys from Cabelas and while I was on their site,nest to the decoys were Corn decoys.  Plastic,Yellow,Ears of Corn. Never heard of such a thing,but seemed to make a good point.  I bought two Doz. to try a feeding setup.   So what do you guys think?? Just trying to add some realizum to the setup.  idea.gif

IMO decoy ears of corn would be just this side of useless for any practical crow hunting situations. Besides, any crow close enough to spot fake corn should by a rights be centred in a shot pattern and deadbiggrin

Make sure you check your regs. some states dont allow baiting fake or real.smile

I tried real corn cobs from a feed mill a couple of times. Can't say for sure if they worked or not. Plastic bag with a McDonalds Big Mac wrapper could be just as good.

Do please give some reports on the plastic corn if you try it. That is one of those things I have always looked at as kind of silly, but in the back of my mind wonder if it might be something that could really give an edge if used in the right circumstances.

Now what I really need is a source of plastic bread slices to mix with the decoys during resident Goose season. smile

I dont think DNR could call it Baiting using Plastic Corn Cobs. Now if they were real, then they may say something.  But I will call DNR with that Q.

Its legal to shoot Coyote over a bait pile here.

You may be right.  But lets look at a Crows vision,at 100yds flyin overhead they can see realy small stuff like a eggs,dead chipmunk on the road and so on!  This way they see Crows milling around things that look like Corn,Oh better get in there before its all gone!

I am most likly Wrong, but then again it may work!   If it dont then im just out $20.  I dont always use a Shotgun and when I use my Rifle I like them on the ground.  So maybe this will help.   smile

You could try cutting 1/2" Styrofoam to size of bread  biggrin

I have 4 dozen Avery corn cobbs connected together on duck decoy line like Christmas lights... I use the corn only during late winter when food is harder to find... just like crow decoy, it adds a visual to help draw the crows in... and being that they are bright yellow.. it really helps the long birds zero in on you..

Do I care if they are goofy.. no... I don't use them that much.. but I, like many hunters, am always looking for an edge...

 I agree,

 if I was starting out, or still trying to gather a good set of crow hunting gear, and I came upon the decision between buying fake corn or a better ecaller, decoys, shells, what have you... I would not buy plastic corn...

I know it doesn't matter to you in Indiana...but here in PA...not permitted to use anything like that.  We can't take out green artificial turf to make it look like grass to attract geese, fake plastic corn or anything.

I do wish we could use battery powered dekes for crows.  I do think that would work at times.

Well I got in contact with the DNR Enforcement Div. and they told me there is no Rule against using Decoy Corn.  Also said if I wanted to use Real Corn or Shoot them on a Carcus that is OK to.

Splash One....I have all the stuff you mentioned,Foxpro,3 Shotguns,3 Rifles,Hundreds on the Ammo,Camo,Flocked Decoys so now I have Corn Decoys. LOL!  biggrin
