I was out this morning on my deck drinking coffee and looking for squirrels and noticed no squirrels were moving around..I thought surely I hav'nt killed them all.. ( 61 harvested in the last two months and only on weekends)
I noticed these two fellas sitting in one of my pecan trees ~ 25 yards from my deck.. One is "chillin" in a fork of the tree.. enjoy..
I think that birds of prey are beautiful, but there is way to many of them lately. Out small game popluations are suffering here because of them. Very nice pic..

Goshawks are the real culprits up here. They lay a real licking on our upland bird populations. Goshawks have become very common as well but are well protected b.y law.

You are right knuckle about the birds of prey. I think in the next few years we are going to see an explosian of birds of prey. And I swear it is because DDT is finally gone from our ecosystem. The song bird population is also exploding. Chlordane was another culprit. Its been gone since 72. It takes 35 years to leach out. My home was treated with it and I still haven't had so much as a dog pecker gnat on my property
i thought that silent spring was discredited as a fraud years ago.
mind you i don't think that me and my pals should have been running behind the ddt jeep, playing in that big white cloud, back in the 60's.
but it was proven not to cause thinning of eggshells, or cancer.
now chlordane is another matter entirely. that is baaaad stuff.
if your home was treated for termites with chlordane before the ban, just add 40 years to the date it was applied, and that's how long you can expect the termites to be controlled.
(btw i hold an ncda pesticide application license - #29603)
