I have been wanting to hunt for months now. I tried yesterday evening and called in just 1 crow and as usual he was 50 or 60 yrds up. Buy the time I walked over to the next ridge I was soaked from head to toe and my glasses were fogging up! It was a short walk and not very steep. I love crow shooting but I cant deal with this God forsaken heat. The whole reason I got saved was to elude this kind of weather, LOL. Im gonna have to start at daylight and quit early. Problem is its hot at day light in Tn in june july and august. Cant wait till september. I was born on september 23rd the first day of fall. Every year ragardless if anybody buys me a thing I get exactly what I want for my birthday (FALL)! Its starting to cool down, the early goose and wood duck season opens and night fishing is in full swing.
I would hunt anyway if the bird numbers were big but they're not. How hot is it where you hunt and do you hunt in the summer? I cant bring myself to hunt when its 95 degrees and the crows are few.

A SUPER 90 and a crow in range, life is good. A good sandwich and bag of M&Ms doesnt hurt either.
Troy I just drove thru the volunteer state yesterday. Saw lots of crows but they were mostly paired, One family group south of Nashville. I have never hunted before the 28th of October. Where I'm from Its Oct 28th thru Feb 28th. Its cool and the birds are bunched. I start scouting feeding areas and staging areas third week of September. Personaly I wouldn't even go to the field this time of year. Start burning gas around your B-day find where they are and burn em first October. I would love to hunt in early October when farmers are balls out harvesting. I also saw lots of crows near Nickajack lake and around the Chatahoochie river area. They are there Just give em time to socialize and find a place to sleep together and you will be in em Always remember tho dont shoot em to close to the roost...............

It's very hot here in KY also. I love to crow hunt...but season in KY is not till Nov. Been doing some groundhog and coyote with the .17HMR....like you said....way to hot to hunt right now.

"To hot to hunt" you can say that again. I don't even go out to do the food shopping until midnight! Even then it's in the high 80's! It's going to be over 100 degrees all week. It was 107 in Hutchinson yesterday and it will reach 105 today. It's not bad from 6:00 a.m. to around 9:00 a.m.
No wonder I feel much better in the fall of the year.

Troy . . . I'm from NE Tennessee where we usually have an occasional cool day during the summer. Not this year. We're caught in this 'heat dome' along with most of the rest of the country.
I'm also looking forward to fall. But around here, temperatures won't start to moderate until late September. 'Course, we'll have the occasional cool day starting a shade earlier, but not enough of them to plan any serious hunting trips.
BTW, my birthday is also September 23. So, that makes you famous! Problem is I was born several years before you. So, that makes me a really old codger.
Still enjoy varmint hunting, tho. But grouse hunting in these mountains is not feasible for me any more. The hills get steeper every year!
Too hot to hunt? No, well at least not for me today.. My cousin and I were taking turns cutting the grass and weeds off the dove field and I kept hearing some crows off in the distance.. Well, I just so happened to have my Maxus, custom Gibson and some #( I'll let you guess the shot size) with me.. I told my cousin to keep mowing and I stepped off to the edge of the field and hit the Gibson ( and yes his calls work well on 103 degree temperatures) I dropped two and the rest (4) spotted me and left the scene..
I used the 50 CFR 21.43 just in case your wondering.. They "were" doing crop damage..
Daytime temps up here are into the low 90's as well. Too hot to hunt in a serious capacity but got out with the kid (aka... the golden retriever) this afternoon and dropped a few. Crows are starting to gather in hundreds now. Best is yet to come
