I've had a few crows raiding the old grain feeder down at the barn. Got the old .17HMR out and picked one off at approx 200 yards. Love this cal. Anyone else out there have a passion for the .17HMR.

Yote,Love my .17 HMR for close in under 100 yards chuck and varmint work. I got this monster chuck tonite in my buddies garden.
I like to team it up with its big brother the .17 Fireball for out to 450 yard shots on chucks, great combo!!
For coyotes I would stick with the big 22's. The .17 HMR does not hit with enough energy to cleanly kill a dog,yes I have killed one with the Fireball, and a .22 long rifle, but I had the luxery of great shot placement. Most of the times callin them in I dont.

Yes nice set up indeed.. We keep a 17 HMR in the blind and the last two shoots have used it on 75 -100 yrd shots of crows that just want to sit up in a tree have a look before coming in..Works extremly well..

I can't wait for crow season in KY. I have made some decoys....interested to see how they will work. I do get a shot at one every now and then around the grain feeder at the barn. We can shoot them anytime they (crows) are causing depredation to property. Again...nice rig you have. One question...if we want to upload an image...do we have to upload to another site and then create a link to that image. It asks for a URL....

To Photobucket then post is probably the easiest way.

Shanedog: Love your varmint exterimination equipped attack truck! Bet that would work nicely on prairie dogs. Is that your 17 Rem. Fireball beside your HMR?
I have made 8 decoys out of plywood. I drew these out by hand and took a gig saw and cut them out...painted them....made some wire stands. Haven't actually tried them out yet...been way too hot and season not in yet. Has anyone had any luck with homemade decoys.

I've noticed the crows around my area are starting to merge into very large murders lately. I've seen as many as 30-40 at times. Seems a little bit early in the year for this. Anyone else notice this?

I love the 17HMR, we cant use a rifle on crows here in CA normally. But under the depredation order, anything goes! I'll be defending the Pistachio orchard next month!
