My Boondocker Decoy Report
Permalink

Recieved a half dozen Boondocker crow decoys about a month ago and finally got a chance to press them into service. I am not usually a person that has to buy the latest gadgets but these deeks seemed so practical and simple. Further, I am one that believes in keeping things simple for best results.

Now to the hunt. Has been very hot and dry up here which is a welcome change from a decade of wet cool weather. Set my six Boondockers on a rocky mud flat along a dry river bed where crows have been gathering toward evening for water and grit.

The decoys looked very realistic and almost seemed animated as they moved and rocked slightly with the light wind. Couple times as I left my blind of head high willows to stretch my legs and I was startled when glancing back toward the decoys on the mud flat. For a second the deeks fooled me as I thought a couple crows had lit within my deeks, when infact the boondockers were only present.

Crows in groups of 10 to 20 tolled perfectly into the small spread of deeks. Most came in without hesitation, many wings back with wing tips cupped. I put my Foxpro amoung the spread and used crows gathering sounds.

Ended hour and a half later at sundown with 21 kills and one probable. Many splashed into the shallow channel and were slowly swept out of sight by the slight current. Not all too bad for a hot summer hunt when one would rather be sitting on a deck with cold suds in handbiggrin

Only complaint with the Boondockers, a minor one at that, would be with the plastic stake. These stakes bent under the weight of the deeks likely due to the low 90's heat in the direct sun. The decoy tail would contact the ground as movement of the decoy would then be curtailed to an extent.

Thumbs up to these decoys. Can hardly wait to try them later in the month when the migration swings into playsmile
