While driving Sunday evening, I noticed the first flight of the season toward our local crow roost. During the summer the crows break up into family groups and tend to their nests and young but do not have a communial roost. These crows I saw were flying pretty high and I couldn't tell if they were common or fish crows (didn't get out of the car), but I'm guessing they were fish crows as they tend to fly a lot higher than common crows. This was a wave of about 20-25 crows.
Haven't yet check to see how many have started roosing together, but last winter it was an awesome sight to see tens of thousands of crows landing in the same roost just before dark. They were coming from all directions and it was a sight to behold. I spent almost two hours just watching the flights come in, circle and finally land. Interestingly, this roost was not in trees, but in a salt water marsh.
This first group of crows going to the roost was a pretty sight, and it truly gave me the itch to get hunting again. I'm tired of 100+ degree days and no hunting! I'll be shooting sporting clays early tomorrow morning and thinking about the fall crop of "black wing doves!"

Before I would *maybe* see two crows together, RARELY more. Now driving I'll see groups of 3 very commonly spotted a few 6's and 7's. Now its rare to see crows alone or in pairs. Where I live in MN not to many crows so not sure what that means just thought I'd throw that out there.

About another 7 weeks before some of the crows start to migrate out of Canada.
It will be here before we know it!
It was 113 degrees yesterday in Hutchinson, ug!

I'm in Southern Manitoba Bob. Cool here, only in the low 90's. I have a good sized flock sized up for a shoot tomorrow evening. Been watching this gang for a few days now. I'd estimate about 2000 or so birds. Will post the results as I only have about seven weeks to educate some crows for you
