I had all the pigeon decoys custom made.  First I purchased the Europeon wood pigeon decoys and had a guy on this forum paint them up into our US birds.

The real trick to it is the mojo pigeon decoys.  I had 2 mojo teals converted to pigeons and one dove converted to a pigeon, then I wired in a timer so they are constantly turning on and off.  Looks like a dancing flock which they can not resist.  I am going to start selling them on ebay.

Here are some close ups.

John,

I just love a good grid pattern photo of dead birds, way to go! That photo looks very European, they do that with all the Driven Pheasant Shoots in Europe.

Nice shooting Minnesota. How many shooters? I like shooting pigeons almost as much as crows. Find they fly a lot like ducks too.

Great shooting. What is the draw for that many pigeons to be in one spot? We have a few here but no large flocks that I am aware of. We had larger groups around feedlots when I lived in Oregon.

Hi John,

Way to go!  Very impressive work and I love the "gridding".   Your "custom" decoys and spread show off your professional engineering approach to problem solving!

We know the feeling about not joining the 500 bird club.  The TCP has a few new wrinkles to try, including a new Primos Double Bull blind per your recommendation, and hit that number in the next year.

Take care,

Milwaukie and Gladstone. Graduated from high school up there.  Lots of cattle farms around the Willamette Valley. We would catch the pigeons at the school's farm and take them to the mountains and "release" them. Let's just say they didn't make it far after someone yelled pull.nobiggrin

Congratualtions on a great shoot!  That is a lot of squab bio-mass there in that very orderly matrix.  You're setting a photographic display standard!

I  can't stoplooking at this post!!!! And I thought I had a pigeon hole. I went by my pigeon spot yesterday and talked to the owner. The extreme heat and the lack of livestock at the present time has the numbers way down  (economy Obama). The farmer ask me when crow season came in and I told him October 28th. He looked at me and said they are covering the south side of this farm upno I assured him that I would take care of that problem very shortlybiggrin What a pigeon shoot smile

We usually never shoot less then 50.  After this shoot we shot 119, 78, 54.  This weekend we should get over 100 2 days in a row.  I will not take a pic unless it is over 200 now.

MJ    You are fortunate to have pigeons like that!!!! We average 30 to 50 every trip. We have the occasional 100 day. My problem is that the same farm is covered with bandits. And they get first dibs in my bookbiggrin Daddy likes the bandits.

Chip, Nuttin' like a good barn shoot for pigeons....I Don't have any Decoys and Contacted soarnomore.com and wanted the flat body decoys that toss flat on the ground, They no longer offer them, yet have the upright painted side veiw pigeons offered, and I like the new Full Body Decoys that you got from them.... Very realistic, and will LAST for years...

I have lately been taken out my remington Model 48 Sportsman 12 gauge and cases of low brass 2 3/4" #7 1/2 and carting piles of pigeons home....

Took the nephew out but after I dropped 26 and he finally got his first he wanted to call it a day as he had his john Deere Sled home he wanted to tinker on before winter...

So I plan to hit that same barn tomorrow and search for some Crow flocks for Friday to slip in on before daylight and set up the decoy spread and my tanned deer hide that I sprayed red on the leather side to look like blood to the crows as I place a few decoys right on the folded over tanned pelt....

Nice looking crow harvest ya got there .... I have yet to shoot more then 38 in a day....

So i have a HUGE goal to reach Bob A.'s Numbers...

Take care and best wishes

Scottie,,,,,,,,,,I learned last year not to set a goal...LOL   I told these guys I would kill a 1000 crows last year. I almost hunted myself into the hospitolno I got my grand but I learned not to set a goal. This year I am just gonna hunt when Im not  to busy breathing or sleeping and just have fun doing it. I will keep count but thats all. I hope you can catch Bob A but you will have to live to be 183 years old....... Good luck and welcome to the most honest hunting site in the world,, Money can't buy the knowledge you will gain heresmile Glad to have you!!!

Chip, I Agree totally how we can hammer the heck outta our Bodies and minds tring to reach a goal.... As I hate to call it a day at 2:50 at a barn with lots of daylight left.. if I have a Pounding headache I try and work threw it dropping them and adding them to the decoy pile to attract more ....More then I want to admit I have had to pull over on the way Home head pounding to hard to allow the eyes to focus..... Thats part of our downside to gettin' Older...Not as easy to over look some signs that the body is tellin' us.So I Know leave Pain meds in the glove box and always have plenty of mugs of folgers along....(and atless a Bag of chips or a few Sandwiches ).....

I have Chatted with Bob A, on nodak site awhile know, And Read and Listened up to his wording or tips given....

As before I was for sure Over hunting spots, yet now have 4-7 different Farms to Hunt, and some have their Normal Carcuss piles. And they are Near Wood lots that help to hang a look out decoy and hide myself and my gear in the weeds as I call them and just let some fly in to drop and add more decoys to the Pile.....

Our season opens the 1st, but We can't shoot them till the 2nd...as it's a Friday,Saturday,Sunday And Monday only season on commen Crows in N.Y.S.

So I plan to take out the wifes remington 1100 20 gauge tomorrow and some #6 and #7 1/2 and drop some pigeons.....

And the first is also the opener for our Waterfowl early season goose season,so my layout blind and calls are set for the flocks to show up and 6 boxes of steel shot await... #BB and #2........

Best wishes Scottie_The_Boy

Chip,

You have given all of us true words of wisdom "just have fun doing it" in later years I look at it very much the same way you do; "you get what you get that day" Tomorrow is another day!

Just like in playing pool, every time the rack gets broken it's the start of a new game and you put the past game in the past. I was playing a pretty good player today, if you miss he makes all the balls dissapear off the table. He is a frenchman and he likes to talk to you while you are shooting, trying to talk you out of a shot. I'd just step away from the table until he quit talking! Anyway I kept the frenchman sitting in his chair 3 out of 4 games this afternoon. Thats the best way to beat a good player is to never let him to the table. Easier said than done!
