10gacrowshooter and I are in the path of this ugly B I itch named Irene. Looks like we'll see a Cat 1 or Tropical Storm out of it. The eye is predicted to be west of us which means we get the worse part of the winds plus 6 tp 10 inches of rain. Either way I expect to lose power for awhile. Gnerator is ready to go.
Blue Belly is right!! your talkin to a alumni of Hooker Elementary School!! Yes that Joseph Hooker, the man that lead the assaults, that drove you Rebs out of the corn feild at Antietam and Lookout Mountain.!!

Direct hit time for Doug at Crowmart. I'm 40 minutes from Ocean City, MD ... ground zero. I spent a lot of time removing anything that could take flight. Winds (unless something changes) are reported to be 74 - 110 mph early Sunday morning. If you are a praying person...send one in for the wife and I and folks around here. Good night Irene.

Dam Doug You better EVACUATE!!!! I guess people wont mind if the crowmart orders are a day or 2 late. I can't imagine going thru something like that. I bet it will play hell on the crow roost's, and the game in general. Let us know how you come out. You can always blame it on Bush, I'm sure Obama will
Easy on the Antietam thing Shane!!! My Great, Great Grandfather left his right arm in that cornfield. Bad enough he had to learn how to write again, and chop wood left handed. HHHHHMMMMM I wonder if he was behind the rock wall at Fredricksburg

They say that cornfield changed hands 4 or 5 times, double and triple cannister shot were the order of the day.Hooker was shot in back of the knee and only left the field when his boot filled with blood. All of those men on both sides are my hero's.
Chip: Obuma is playing golf and probably doesn't know about the hurricane. His administration is hoping the winds will redistribute our money.
Winds are now up to 20 mph and, of course, its raining. Winds are supposed to get to 90 mph. My home should do okay re flooding. I only wish we wouldn't loose power ... but thats a given...just for how long???

Irene pooped out at the last minute here in NC...talked to Mom last night, they didn't even evacuate the home, and they are right on the coast just N of Wilmington.
Max sustained winds around 80 mph and the only damage one pier and the end 30' of another.
Been watching the surf cams, and there are guys out there surfing it! cowabunga dude.
Been trying to call mom today, but power is out down there so no dice.
Here outside of Raleigh, some rain and wind is all. Maybe 30 mph. No worries.
I've been through several hurricanes, here and in NJ (disobeyed the evacuation of LBI and got to watch the eye go right over surf city back when I was 19!) but none were like the tornado that just missed me by a half a block last spring!
Well ok that one on LBI was close.
Here's a shot of Irene storm clouds approaching from our backyard last night...
good luck to all y'all up North. hope it doesn't pick back up.
jc
oh yeah, btw, my great grandfather, w h cawley, enlisted in the 15th NJ as a private, and was mustered out after the war as a sgt. wounded 12 times, had his right ear shot off. the fifteenth was in every major engagement (being a part of the famous 1st division of the 6th corps,) except for Gettysburg, where they arrived on the last day and were posted behind big round top.
There is an awesome memorial to the 15th at spotsylvania's bloody angle, where they stood toe to toe with their southern brothers for hours on end.
someday i'll post photos of some of the memorabilia i've got.
Post away Jon, I am infatuated with civil war stuff. How could a guy get wounded 12 times, have his ear shot off and keep fighting????? Just shows you what kind of people built this country. You got to love it
Here,Here Jon,I second that!!! Please do post, and some battle accounts if you got them.My buisness partners Great great uncle was captured down around Five Forks.Put in some time till the end at Andersonville, and a few other p.o.w camps.
I think at the time they knew what they were fighting for on both sides was important, but if you read the stuff written during the war then the stuff after the war, taking it all in retrospect, that was when the veterans really understood the enormous impact the war would have on our nations history. I went to Antietam (Sharpsburg) for you Rebs,on the 140 th anniversary of the battle in 2002 and it was a really powerfull experiance to say the least. If you dont get a humbling feeling, walking those battlefields understanding the great sacrifices these men made then you never will.

Probably going to lose power tonight. Every channel is putting up different rain totals, the worst saying 12 to 15 inches. Looks like floating deeks in the basement. Inland NJ is going to get more rain than the coast.

Shane: The dog fell in Montana; north of Miles City. Gordon and I went out to mule deer hunt and had a great time. We both dropped the hammer on nice mulies. We then started hunting coyotes which we really wanted to do. The big guy I'm holding came to a hand call...I dropped him at about 100 yards with a 270 SMag. We did spend time at a couple of dog towns and had a blast (baiting for coyotes).

Well, the wife and I survived the hurricane although it is still raining and blowing a gale except from the NW now. Unbelievably, thank God, we never lost electricty (tens of thousands were out here in MD) and were able to make a great cup of coffee this morning. Winds were up in the 70s last night. I haven't been out to inspect the house but I don't see any shingles laying in the yard. Flooding is unbelievable. Hope it didn't blow all the crows away. CrowMart will be up and running tomorrow...I hope the Post Offices are. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.
Off to Ocean City ......cowabunga dudes.

N.J. before the storm had broken a record for the wettest August ever at 12 inches. My area just got another 9 inches. We lost everthing Saturday night starting with T.V, internet, electric, phone, than water. Wind took out trees and large limbs everywhere falling on lines. Towns are still are water and some of the rivers have not crested yet, most setting new records for height. Some power stations are under water and my local water treatment station got flooded. I'm under a boil water advisement. Everthing is back on now. The news early this mourning said roughly a million people were still without power and some town still under water might not get it back til Friday. Hope the rest of the east coast guys faired O.K.

Shanedog:
That area was my stomping grounds as I grew up in Hagerstown and lived in Sharpsburg at one time. You are spot on concerning the feelings invoked just walking around on the grounds of those unbelievable battles.
Doug
