My friend Bruce and I shot over P-Nuts today and picked up 98 to start off the 2011 season. It was absolutely the worst shooting by the both of us AND my Maxus stopped firing right in the middle of large groups coming in. The Maxus firing pin would not go deep enough into the primer of the shell to fire the round.. Not sure what is wrong. I shot nearly two boxes before the trouble. I end up walking back to my truck and getting out the Benelli. 20+ birds made it to the woods and we could not retrieve them..All total for the day was 120+ plus birds.. Nice start to the season!!.Enjoy the pictures. We keep a 17HMR in the blind and ended up with one from ~85 yds..

More Pictures. I was checking on an pecan orchard and saw this nice buck caught in a hog trap. Poor fellow, tore his mouth all to heck trying to get out of the trap.. I called the owner an let him know he had a deer in his hog trap...
I'd check your hammer spring, firing pin and your firing pin spring on your Maxus. If everything is ok (no broken firing pin) then you might have a hard lot of primers in the ammo you are using.
What do your crows eat once they pick the peanut fields clean?

I just would have opened the door to the trap and then get out of the way! Jerry Byroade (4 years ago) and I had to do that with a deer in a hog trap. I just opened the door and hopped onto the roof of the trap while Jerry hid behind the truck lol. That deer took off like a shot!

Bob, The pictures do make one go shooting. Sorry for the jelousy..
Thank you for the info on the Maxus.. I took the Maxus apart and the firing pin is ok. Checked for debris and all clear..I'm going to give it a cleaning and see if it will fire.. Never heard of "hard" primers.. I'm using Remington Express loads.I shot the Benelli (M2) the rest of the day and had no problems as usual..
Not sure what they eat after P-Nuts are gone. Mabe they move on to others areas.. It was a first shoot at this location, so I'm not sure what other crops are around..
I tried to get the door open but the cage was poorly constructed and the door was warped so it required two people..I was alone and the deer was going nuts..I was by myself, no cell phone signal and I could not get on top of the trap..I'm sure they had to put the deer down.. He had torn his upper lips back about 4" inches and his bottom lips were torn back as well. I'm pretty sure he had knocked a few teeth out too.. I can whack crows all day long, but a beautiful deer is something different. It really disturbed me..
Dont wan to start a war about Maxus and Benelli but this aint the first time the "Muck-sas" has let me down and team Benelli has to finish the job.. 2011 will be once again be Benelli from this point forward...My friend shoots a Cordoba and she has never let him down..
Years back when I reloaded my shotgun ammo I got into a hard lot of CCI primers, my model 12 just wouldn't hit the primer hard enough for ignition. They worked fine in my 870 Remington. I used Winchester 209 size primers after that (they are a softer primer) and they worked just fine in both my 20 gauge model 12's.
I sent the primers back to CCI and they said it was a hard lot. They sent me some new primers but I sold them, my nervous system couldn't handle any more crows getting away!

Well any make of gun can stop some time. But than thats just my thought
Nice job on the crows Mark. 98 for 2 shooters is a real good shoot IMO. Can't get over the powder dry soil on that field. Reminds me of moon dust from one of the Apollo lunar landing missions.

Great photo's! Notice you keep a rifle nearby for those runners or maybe a sentry in a tree outside of shotgun range.
Texas Matt and I both brought Maxus's based on Skip recommendation. Ours have been rock solid in all departments including reliablity. You might want to consider calling/returning your gun to Browning to check out any issues. I have had good luck over the years with their service department.
Here in Mississippi, hog traps are required to have open tops so the deer and bear can escape. I am a little surprised other states don't require it also.
