Just returned from the 2nd Pnut shoot of 2011. Picked up 42. Lost 2 in the woods. I shot with the land owners son (14) he is an excellent shot. He can put a bead on a crow faster than anybody I've seen. He only missed one bird..The snake in the picture is one trhat came crusing by the blind and got both our attention. I've never seen a snake look like an accordian before. Enjoy the pics.

Man you guy's are killin me......... I love those feeder set hunts. 33 days and a wake up for me. Bob around here that is called a bull snake,,, Some call them chicken snakes, or rat snakes. That is probably the most beneficial snake on that farm. I hope you guy's left him alone Mark!!! They feast on everything from spiders to rattle snakes. That snake will catch more mice than 10 cats. He won't play with em either. That is a defense mechanism he uses when he is threatened, it makes him look twice his size and confuses his enemy Great pics, I am not far behind you!!!!
Ya A non poisonous snake bite is in some cases worse than a viper bite. Lots of bacteria on them teeth. I like snakes but horrified of a dam spider, you show me a brown recluse in your house and I'm gone forever

Just got a call from one of my contacts and he said he was covered up with crows. He sometimes stretches the truth, but we will see. Looks like we will be shooting again this weekend..yee haw!!
Great reading and interesting photos Mark. Lots of snakes up here as well, known as Garder Snakes. Totally harmless but they still give me the creeps. Keep the peanut shoots going and be sure to post!
Ted

When I was painting the outside of the house a couple of summers back there was a big damn garter snake that had a toad half way down. I got the sharp shooter (spade) out of the pickup and whacked off it's head and let poor little toadie go; he catches bugs for me on the back porch. I said "toadie, this is your lucky day"

Another great story and pics! That was a wild pic of that snake (never seen the likes of that around here) Looked like he got hung up in a zipper!
There is usually just one other person.. I have taken two additional people, but it's difficult to manage, unless there is a lot of crows...It's nice to have someone in the blind that you know how he is going to react to most every situation that the crows present.
An interesting thing happened on our first shoot this year. (the "P-Nut" shoot / 1st shoot of 2011) Things had slowed down a bit and we were seated in the blind waiting on crows to work throgh the area. I saw a crow way off straight out in front of the blind and coming toward the decoys. I alerted Bruce that one was coming in. He said "shhh quite." I thought that crows from 150+ yards could not hear me, but I shut up anyway. The crow landed out in front of the decoys about 85 yards straight out in front past the decoys. ( un-social b'strd) I whispered and said "Bruce he landed." He again said shhh. We both were wearing electronic hearing protection so we could whisper and still hear each other. I thought he was nuts and no way the crow could hear me, but I did as he wished and I didn't say anything further. I slowly leaned over and picked up the 17 HMR and used my shotgun barrel as a prop. I put the cross hairs on the body of the bird, squeezed off a round and "crow go puff." Just after I shot, a huge hawk took off from the tree just above us and to the right side. Bruce said "what the heck did you do that for? I said I killed that crow. He said did you not see that hawk? I said yes, I saw him fly over us. Bruce then told me the whole story and he said that the hawk had flown over the top of us and landed in a tree where we had a sentry bird. He said the hawk landed on a branch right above where the decoy was hanging and then tried to get both talons in the plastic crow decoy. He said it was amazing to watch the hawk try and penetrate the decoy. He said you have seen the look in the hawks eyes when he couldn't get his talons in the body of the decoy. He said it was amazing to watch. I hate I missed it but I did add one more for the picture. Bruce later said, well I guess I know why you shot, that's why we're here.
