Big Smoke Poles and Good Crows

Shot a 450 acre pecan orchard this morning. Not many birds there. What few were there were skiddish. We saw around 75 or so and killed 27. What we picked up are pictured. The "big ole smoke poles" were just down the road form were we shot. Our big flocks are still not here. The "blind is a LARGE burn pile. The frame of the blind is visible in the back left corner and another directly behind the birds. Pic was taken after we were tearing down.

Yeah Chip. That was an odd sight. I was cursing down the road and looked out across the corn field and there sat 12 cannons! Could you imagine being in front of those when they all went off. I stopped and read the signage up the road and this was one of the places where the two armies met. The Confederates didn't realize how big the army they were ambushing was. It doesn't sound like it went well for us. I didn't even know this battle park was here. It's only 45 min from my house. If any of you old war buffs ever find yourself in "the hospitality state" you owe it to yourselves to visit Vicksburg and tour the old antebellum homes and Memorial Park. Both sides have huge cemeteries and monuments to all states that fought. There is also a civil war steam warship there. Very cool. The park is huge.
