Road trip and a 50 bird day (pics)

With many of our local cornfields still standing we opted to take a 50 mile or so drive west of our location.   The day was partly sunny, 60 deg high and a storng WSW wind.  Our first stop was a big cornfield that initially looked promising but died after we had shot 5.  We had been there about two hours, packed up and then drove to another grass and corn field a few miles up the road.  We saw a good number of birds about a half mile from where we pulled off the road.  We walked about 150 yards into the field and and quickly built a blind near some trees.  Before we could finish we had 50 to 60 birds come from behind us.  We jumped into our partially finished blind and had steady shooting for an hour.  Birds came in steady steady until around 1PM with a only a few between then and 3PM.  We managed to kill 25 a piece and that's a good shoot for these parts.  Foliage is the poorest this year that I can remember.  It has been very warm with only one frost so far.  The birds were shot with a pair of Parker (short 10ga) doubles, loaded with 6 shot of course biggrin

Yesterday morning we got to talk with a local cop who drove into our location after I shot a tall one that fell into the woods well behind us.  The dead crow nearly missed hitting a couple walking their dog through the woods behinds us that we didn't know were there (otherise I would have yellled FORE!) Fortunately falling dead crows is not a ticketable offense biggrin
