This roost is located in the middle of a city. The city is surrounded by farmland, but its large enough that I'm not sure how to efficiently locate their paths of travel in the morning. And since its located a good distance away from me, I would like to get as much information as I can during each scouting trip (start "poor college student" record).
Its funny because I have seen some decent sized groups there before, but this was before I caught the crow hunting bug and now I can't remember what time of day or year I saw them. Found out that this city was a larger roost by reading some articles online about how the city hates all the crows and their estimates of how many roost there....good stuff if you ask me!

I would take a different approach,,,,,,, I would go there in the evening. Watch which way they are comming in to the roost. Secure permission to hunt them on some ground that is at least 1/4 mile or a 1/2 mile from the roost. Put out some decoys and turn on your call. Get well hidden preferably with the sun and wind to your back. If you get directly in the path they are using to get to the roost you probably wont be able to keep your gun loaded after 3:30 pm. Every bird that comes by will swoop down to see what the cammotion is about. Always a fresh batch coming in in after you reload. Lots of fun if it is done right.
Went out this morning (7:45am) to an area that I had seen some before and found a good looking flyway with more crows than I've seen in a long time. They fly right over the gun range I'm a member at and into a neighboring field. Later, I tried asking the farmer who I think owns that field, but he wasn't home. On the way home, I happened across a ton of crows all landing in a field to feed (around 2:30pm). Again, went to some of the nearest farms...ghost town...
