I shot 4,797 crows on 37 crow hunts. The total with an occasional partener once in a while brings the grand total too 6,339 crows which is 171 birds per hunt on the average.
Been on 1,449 crow hunts in the past 38 crow seasons.
In 38 seasons I've shot 144,187 crows.
Here are some stats for the past 6 seasons.
These are just my totals:
2006 - 3,309
2007 - 4,008
2008 - 5,279
2009 - 4,164
2010 - 4,762
2011 - 4,797

It's not easy getting consistent high volume shoots, it takes plenty of leg work, even with lots of crows.
I hope you're season went well for you.
Bob A.
My season just opened last Saturday. I have just obtained permission on a large farm that has many, many crows on it. In fact, I've personally never seen any more crows in one place than this farm. Hopefully I'll have my best season ever.
I was playing pool with a fella who moved to Kansas from Long Island, New York like I did back in 1974. He moved here in 1976, he does not hunt, he just retired from UPS and gets almost $ 3,000 a month . He just turned 56 years old.
Talk with you soon Pat.

The way you were going earlier in the season I thought you had a chance at breaking your season record. I guess that stretch of hunts with the PhD caring crows put a stop to that.
I know how much work goes into successfully killing large totals of crow, But I cant imagine how hard you have to work to kill 5000 in a season. My hat is off to you. Most see those numbers and have no idea how much sweet equity goes into this sport we all love so much.
Hope you enjoy your off season.

It was not all gravy all season long, we had our share of beatings along with some high points.
Bob A.
I just so happens your high points set records... I'm sure despite your expertise you still have those days where nothing seems to go right, but regardless, you're definitely a buster to look up to
When you asked if I had those days when nothing goes right I got a good laugh over that one. These days usually happen late in the season when the birds know the score. Weather conditions also are a big factor which have an effect on your hunt.
Greg from Mississippi (8) wanted to know why I didn't break my 1997 record of 6,349 crows. I was off to a great start, I shot 1,368 crows in 2 1/2 days during the early part of the season. I hunted alone in 1997 which makes a huge difference, you get all the shooting! By late November (this season) I had 3,566 crows in the bag already and thought for sure I was going to beat my best year. I joined my partner Dick in December but from then on I only got "half the shooting" and that makes all the difference.
Talk with you soon I hope.

Good comments Bob. I too hunt alone most of the time...mostly because I'm greedy and want all the shooting to myself. Actually, the truth of the matter is that I am a shift worker and work 4 days on 4 off. Plenty of time off during the week when most others are at the grind. Most of my hunting pals are restricted to weekends only as well. Therefore I do it alone or not at all which is OK as I'm around pepole all the time at work. The peace and tranquility of a crow blind is fine by me, interupted of coarse, by frequent crow attacks and plenty of gun fire

You sound like you are very comfortable in your own skin. I am a lot like you in this regard, I like hunting alone, it dosent bother me a bit. But as Greg (8) mentioned it's nice to share some memorys with a good bud in the blind with you. Now I'm not talking about a beer, just a good friend. lol.

I was on the road a lot this season. Dick & I were hunting crows in of all places Florida last month. The weather was great and we shot mainly all fish crows in the area we were in. I can't say the name of the airport we hunted around but they sure had problems with all the crows, they were afraid a 747 would suck em into the intake of the aircraft and then have a huge crash! Anyway because the crows presented such a hazzard Dick and I were shooting crows about 400 yards from where the jets were taking off. Nobody on the aircraft even knew we were around because we were back in the timber calling the crows in.
It's airport policy not to have firearms on International Airport property. I talked to the head guy and asked him if it was possible to shoot the crows since they presented such a hazzard. I said 7 1/2 shot ain't gonna take out a 747! Because they have been trying to rid the airport of the crows for the past several years we got the green light! Dick said that I have a real knack for talking with people, Jerry Byroade my late hunting partner used to call me "The Silver Tounged Daddy"
I just thought you might find this interesting Mike.

That's great! I have a friend that works for the gub'ment as a pest eradicator. They have shot seagull on JFK. He has permits to kill just about anything that is causing a problem.

I used to hunt ducks right in Jamaca Bay by JFK airport with my father many years ago. My father was in tight with the game wardens and this was there own private little bay, no one could hunt there except them and a few of there friends. No bag limits on ducks, seaguls and loons were also fair game as well!
Some of the old time game wardens were outlaws before they worked for the state. Now they were just outlaws with a badge lol. True story!

I shot this photo from the blind. The ducks were almost a quarter of a mile away! I used a 500mm lens.
Bob A.
That must be a great lense on your camera.
We saw approximately 400-500 ducks on our shoot at the dairy farm. They were in there eating out of the cow manuer just like the crows. Strange to see ducks around here in late January.
I reloaded my own shotgun ammo for over 38 years. When the price of shot hit $ 18.00 per (25 lb) bag I quit, I figured my time was worth something. This way (new ammo) I don't have to even pick up my emptys if I'm in a remote location. I just take the empty shell boxes with me and thats it.
Since the majority of the crows I kill are under 40 yards I find that the El Cheapo loads work pretty damn good. I shoot roughly 10% of my crows ( 400 plus crows) 50 yards and beyond each season. 7 1/2's and 8's is all I use.
