We use that wonderfully inexpensive device bungied to the base of an owl decoy and it works very well.
And we don't worry about the in-bound crows seeing those cute, little red eyes. If anything, the eyes will hold their attention longer to their regret!

Well, I know the suspense is just killing everyone, so...........Got the glowing-eye bat as mentioned in a previous post - as you might imagine, it is a cheezy Made in China item, BUT......it works pretty good! I did a couple of really simple mods (electrical tape over the eyes and the white paint on the face and some 14 ga. aluminum wire twisted around the neck and then twisted to form a short "post" to stick in the ground so the wings would be clear), put in 2 AA batteries, grabbed my stuff and went to a nearby spot. I used a simple setup, owl on the ground, 4 dekes in close-by trees, Spitfire with the stock "crow fight" sound - put the bat right in front of the owl, turned it on, got hidden, turned on the caller - crows came in fast and hard, got a couple and just enjoyed the show. I can't tell for sure but it did seem that they were more aggeessive than usual - also fooled the HELL out of a redtail - could have killed him with a rock.
I'm a sucker for goofy stuff like this and I would have enjoyed it even if I left the shotgun home - If you are familiar with the cartoon I felt like I was Wile E. Coyote and I'd finally fooled the roadrunner........
