Cass Big horn Review

Ordered this from buy.com for around $30 with shipping. I have come to two conclusions: 1. This speaker is not suitable as an addition to the Foxpro Firestorm I have. The cass speaker is loud and distored on level 2 volume from the remote. This is because the volume at the caller is turned to high so i imagine it pulls off of that control and not the remote. At level 2 you cannot hear a thing from the firestorm so it's not a good match. 2. This speaker is perfect for someone that wants to use their phone/ipod as a caller. It sounds great with music from my phone coming out of it and would be plenty loud for most calling. Mynplan is to add it to my mix and have two different sounds going at once. The 75' of cord sucks to wrap up bu is great to ive some distance between u and the call. Hope this helps.

PB,

The reason for the distortion is BOTH instruments are trying to amplify the sound. You would have been better off with a standard un-amplified speaker. The Cass has a built in amp, hence the need for the 4 c batteries and needs only small signal to function. If your foxpro has a separate volume control for the external speaker jack you can turn it down till it matches the volume of the foxpro and that will work. If it does not then you need to match a standard speaker to the output of the foxpro.

Thanks for the heads-up - I have been very interested in the recent discussions about boosting the volume on Foxpro callers......I'd like to do it myself. I don't know a damn thing about electronics, but I did have a thought - In the process of playing guitar with my son in hillbilly bars I have used a gizmo called a "matchbox" - it is an inexpensive item that is plugged in the line from the pickup on the guitar to the amplifier - it somehow "matches" the output of the pickup to the input on the amp. As I said, I have no idea how this magic works, but if anyone knows about this stuff please comment on whether or not it might help with the problem at hand......Thanks

How about turning the speaker off, on your FoxPro and just use the Cass speaker for volume?

Would that work?

I think if you use the speaker without adjusting the foxpro volume by remote it would be fine. Also, yes u could turn foxpro speakers off but the foxpro speakers sound better. For $30 i'll keep it.
