I know this has been a sore subject as of late and I should probably let it go but............. I can't ! I know there is a chance that taking a newbie might blow up in your face but it,s one well worth taking!!!! I have taken many people hunting and I,ll tell you all there is nothing more enjoyable than watching a new hunter when the crows come in screaming and raising all the cane they can ! I have met some of the best folks and have even got to call them a friend(not an accuaintance I think freind is the most loosly used word in the english language)!!I have read Bob,s posts where he says he likes to shoot alone and is comfrtable in his on skin and I say more power to him ,however for me I,d quit if I hunted alone.

Now all this being said I did,nt get screwed by taking other people and introducing them to this fun and eciting sport of "ours" even if they did start hunting no more than the guys who started Bob, the guy who got screwed, me,8fish and all the rest of you hard hunting ,fun lovin, pshyco crow hunters!

So let,s not be selfish ,glutinius or egotistical b...holes and take people hunting !

One bad apple will not ruin the whole barrel(of my beretta 391)

I wonder if the people we took were not friends first?what reasons were they theren the first place ? What makes our huntin :partners: any different as shurly they are friends as well or they would,nt have not been there ? just saying was there an alterior motive or some incentive for taking them in the first placeif so then do not cry if who you take decides to start hunting .Ihave never seen this is the prpertyof .....stamped anywhere on a crow! Sure we all have done the things it takes to be sucessful at crow hunting and for me has included takin new hunters (not friends at the time) because they had permission or acess to hunting spots ! So if the spot was theirs in the first place and they go back so what! Not sayin this wa s the other guys deal at all and I am not callin anyone selfish or anything else but we should not be hipocritical to the fact of not takin anyone because someone took us first!

btw...

My hunting partner is also my brother-in-law and the very best friend anyone could ever have. If I didn't hunt with him, well in the words of Mac Davis " I never get lonely cause I treasure my own company". The truth is crow hunting is best in the company of someone you would still do other things with. My brother-in-law and I are constantly spending time together doing other forms of hunting, but we also can just hang out together and laugh. Today is a world full of people who want someone else to "show them the ropes". That is fine and a good thing to do, but my point is be selective. Get to know the person first, the personality will tell you their intentions. The reason why and I'll just throw out the name Bob in is successful is because he yes learned from some others, but he puts in the work and scouting. If you ask him about calls or setup techniques or sound choices he'll help you all he can. But he won't give GPS coordinates to his favorite spots ,not selfish but smart. Over hunting of crows ruins good spots. It is hard to take someone out shoot the daylights out of them then tell that guy we shouldn't shoot here again for at least two weeks.

Thanks for noticing Zack the Britt in my avatar skeet

He is my other hunting partner

I agree we should promote hunting, but the points of the other post was be careful who you take along. My hunting partner and I spent years of hard work, trial and error and traveled 100s of miles. We did our homework and we only take his two young sons along. I'm not willing to teach someone in a day what it took us years to learn. Too many times in my past I've shown up at a honey hole only to find a person there hunting property I had shown them, not anymore. The days of me doing all the research, securing permission and scouting for others are long gone. Call me selfish if you wish, I'm 40 years old and work in shop with 30 other guys so I get called worse on a daily basis! Sometimes the word friend only means a person who feels comfortable taking advantage of you!!!!!

I have started some guys off on different hunting avenues. A deer hunter into goose hunting for instance. But that deer hunter found a field of geese, got permission for himself and me to be with him them asked me to show him the ropes. So we used my gear.....layouts, decoys, etc. AND I did not go back to that field unless he asked me to come back........He now loves goose hunting before the deer season. I have taken my son's friends fishing, but on public lakes and streams. I have taught people how to fish for striped bass along the coast. We compare notes and talk fishing. You can teach people the basics and advanced techniques without giving away your special spots.

Again, not arguing or trying to offend, just saying......

For me, I like to shoot crows, but the best part about crow hunting for me is sitting in the blind with friends. Laughing, telling jokes, that's what I like.

I went alone just a couple times, had fun, but nothing like slapping a high-5 with a friend after smacking one way out there.

Thank God for the guy who took me the first time.

Hi Skeet,

I've only been burned once in my life in regard to crow hunting. I still take a fella with me once in a while, but not for crows. I'll take him for pigeons and the reason is that crows are much smarter and can not stand the pressure.

One state that I hunt in has a pretty sizable roost, it's hunted hard during the season. I only hunt it the first week of the season to get my licks in and I don't go back. The reason is obvious, the birds are all spooked with all the pressure they get after the first week. If the birds only got hunted that first week and then things slacked off where they could get several weeks to a month without hearing an e-caller then they would have a chance to settle down. But this is not the case, every weekend there are guys after them and as a result they might as well leave the e-caller in the pickup!

Hi Bob,

I totally agree with you and truly understand where your coming from on overshooting an area 8 and I are moving 30miles or more from our core area to find some "dumb" birds lol this weekend and about 60 miles more the next weekend even though there are still crows there just to give em a rest ,we may not even hunt them again this season! We also skipped a couple of weekends to deer hunt.

Thank you for saying you only have been burned once in your career which for almsot 9999% of us would equal 4 careers or more this shows either the odds of shuch happening are low or you are an extremly good judge of people!

I have to comment on this. First of all, I have taken a whole lot of people hunting and fishing over the years. I love introducing people to both. I do have a major issue with someone that would go to my spot after I have taken them or as far as crow hunting is concerned, MY AREA. In the case I was talking about, I took someone crow hunting who had never done it before or knew nothing about it. I had never left my inner circle of crow hunting buddies before this (All 2 of them and one lives over a 100 miles away). I told him up front before I took him to keep his mouth shut about it and he assured me he would. Obviously that didn't happen. He didn't go out and find some spots and say lets go, instead he bought an e-caller started hunting with someone else and has hunted the crows in my areas.

What I failed to mention in my post is that this guy is telling everyone that will listen to him about it and trying to encourage everyone he can to crow hunt. This area already has alot of pressure, now it will probably be done. He doesn't understand that more guys blowing e-callers at the crows will screw everyone and he won't listen when you tell him. It is like talking to a wall!! He is the type of guy that will say, "I have been doing this for 30 years, so don't you tell me what to do." But, in this case he plain just won't listen to someone who has been doing something for 25 years. By the time he realizes what he has done, it will be too late for all the crow hunters around here. He is telling people I am crazy for just telling him the truth and facts about crows and crow hunting, he just doesn't get it. It is sooo frustrating to me.

I defer to my previous posts. However, what is done is done. Also remember that no good censored.gifcensored.gif, may still be in contact with others you know so again be careful what you say and who you say it to. A$$holes like that will stop at nothing to burn your butt again, especially since you called him out on it. censored.gif him, lose all contact with him and don't look back, he is a waste of time.

You can be a nice guy and not finish last, but use caution cause the world is over run with ignorant people. They are everywhere and breed like rabbits!!

Until you experience firsthand what it feels like to get burned by someone you took the time and effort to introduce them to a new type of hunting, you will never understand.Crow hunting is unlike any other type of hunting out there. Not everyone you take hunting will do you wrong, but there is always one or 2 bad experiences that you will never forget. It happens to most if not all of us at some point.I also have introduced new people to hunting and fishing over the years.I waterfowl hunt alot, and hunt with my son, brother, and 2 other trusted friends. When it comes to crows,I hunt with one trusted guy in that group and thats it.

Crow hunting is a very unique type of hunting. It has alot of different variables involved.Crows are fast learners, and overhunting them, continually blowing E callers at them, and poor hides will put you and everybody else in that area out of commission. One bad crow hunter can move thousands of birds off a flyway, causing them to leave the area for long periods of time, even all together. I see why people get bitter when it comes to this type of situations, because it has also happened to me.FFD

My dad once told me something I never forgot. Only trust the people who put their feet under your table everynite at supper time. I have pretty much lived by that saying all my life. The few times I have strayed from it, I have been burned. If you got something special share it with blood only, and it will remain a secretwink

Gearly,

In your last post you said you hoped nobody would hunt your spot if you took them there. The fact of the matter is that they don't have to hunt your spot at all, they can be within the same area and still get the birds spooked to death!

I can relate to your story about the fella that is very hard headed. I tried to explain over shooting an area too much to another crow hunter years ago. This guy was older than I but not wiser! That area is now a dead zone and he wonders why? Some folks just have to learn the hard way I suppose. If that was my only territory to hunt in he would have taken me down with him! It was a good area too, but not anymore, it only takes "one knot head to put the screws to you"
