I was at "my" gun club for a night shoot a couple weeks back. The club did a lead recovery operation this past summer in the drop zones by the skeet and trap ranges. After that was completed we planted some rye to keep the soil in place. The deer sure appreciated the planting efforts and helped themselves to the greens despite the shooting.
Here is
a couple of the customers...that busted clay on the left kinda looks like a tracer round headed their way!
The rifle range birm in the background is at 200 yards and as you can see the deer are quite closer than that.
I have seen the same thing happen at the trap shooting range and rifle range where I shoot. My theory is the deer are born in the woods near the club and they are so use to the gunfire they have no fear of it.
In past years I've had white tails do that while I'm shooting crows. You aught to get some hard copies and show it to the land owners who think the shooting will ruin there deer hunting!

I've always thought they can sense danger, they'll sit outside my fence in the woods while the dog sits and barks at them. They're probably not 30 feet away, but if someone or something comes thru the woods, they're gone.
