Well I am ashamed to say I have no crow hunting stories or pictures this year.  For reasons unknown to me,  I never saw enough crows to get out and give it a try.   My best roost,  old faithful,  the roost that consistently had thousands in it each year had very few birds.   I don't really understand why but they did not show up in North Alabama this year like they did in years past.    Maybe the warm winter held them up north?  Any ideas?   All conditions around the roost seemed the same except no birds.

I think the warm winter is messing with them, as I have nit really saw any large groups of crows here in pa...........all the places that usually hold crows have some, but no real big numbers........so, I think that a lot of them did not migrate, or migrate as far this year with the mild winter

Nevermore, Jerry, & Buckshot,

While roost numbers can vary from year to year if you see a dramatic change in the numbers it is a good bet that the roost has moved to another location. This is what has happened in Nevermore's case, there used to be thousands uppon thousands of them in Nevermore's area, but, good places come and go over time!

I don't think that is my issue, are there never really is a lot of crows in these areas......maybe small groups of 200 or so.....this year I have counted 100 in this area, it just seems like there a few less hanging out there this year.....I was just guessing they all didn't migrate because of the mild winter
What are your thoughts on the migration theory Bob?

Buckshot,

In your area it sounds like at least some of the birds are feeding in another area. It sounds like 50% of your birds have found an area they like better, so you might want to scout around and see what you can find.

Every year is differen't, some years have more crows than others to work on. The crows showed up in all the areas I hunt in pretty good numbers. All the crows I hunt are migrants.

Nevermore - I hunt the same area that you hunt.  You're absolutely right; there are very few crows here this year.  My buddy and I killed only 46 crows in Morgan County this year.  Peak time for numbers was late Nov. to late Dec.  All in all, it was a pitiful season here in Morgan and Madison Counties.  I can't say for sure, but I think the April tornados wiped out the local crow nesting population.  I believe we killed a lot of the remnant local population early and then we had no migrants later on.  I don't know why we didn't have any migrants because northern Mississippi (100 miles east of our location) was covered in crows in late December.

I was thinking the tornados might have had something to do with it.    Even my 20 to 30 bird a hunt spots dried up this year.   I didn't even see enoght to set a decoy.

we seem to still have good numbers here in MN for this time of year, which is nice because the season opens in a few more days ,woot!
don't think there was a huge migration, they didn't go real far south it seems
