Scott,

Here is a goose photo of Magellan Geese in Argentina. No bag limit, they average about 9 to 10 pounds per bird.

When was the last year you were down there, Bob???? What time of year is shooting the best for webfoots down there?

I want to shoot sand grouse, francolin and guineafowl in SA. Don't ask me why, just always wanted that experience. Don't give two hoots in hell about shooting a four-legged African critter, though! HAHAHAHA So maybe the SA trip should be one of those want-tos that just never happen LOL.

Not to change the subject, but you guys ever shoot crows in Saskatchewan or Manitoba??? I wonder if it's worth a damn up there? I remember reading a book as a kid about crow-shooting around Saskatoon, and wonder if it was just a story or do they really have scads of uneducated crows?

I shoot crows in Manitoba all the timebiggrin Lots of crows in Saskatchewan as well. Crows are educated in the spring as they have been hunted hard by you fellas in the U.S. all winter. Further, hard to get sizable kills then as they spread out across creation in preparation for nesting.

Fall migrations are the best as crows are plentiful and real stupid as nobody hunts them much up here...which is a good thingsmile Sadly by early October most of our crows have left for the southcry

Scott,

If you want volume, Argentina far surpasses South Africa in my opinion. South Africa is still a fun safari with many species of birds to hunt, you just don't get the volume.

The goose photo was taken back in 2000 and 2001 in Argentina. I started going down there in the late 1980's.

The photo you are looking at was a better than average goose hunt that morning. An average hunt is anywhere from 35 to 45 geese every morning. Once in a great while you can shoot over 100 geese in a matter of a few hours if your in the right spot.

Scott,

You can only shoot crows in Canada "if you are Canadian" they will not allow Americans to hunt them. Pretty stupid law if you ask me. You can hunt anything else in Canada if you are a visiting hunter, the law makes no sence.

The SandGrouse hunts are fun, so are the hunts for Francolin. The Guineafowl hunts are hit and miss in SA.

The last year I was in South America was 2001.

On the top row going from left to right if you go to the third photo, thats a Rosey Billed Pochard, the size of our Canvasbacks here in the states.

Next is a Brazillian Teal only seen in Brasil and Argentina. Underneath the teal photo is a White Faced Tree Duck only seen in Argentina and Africa.

Bottom row far left I am holding a White Cheeked Pintail in my right hand and a Yellow Bill in my left hand.

Here is a photo from New York taken on Manhasset Bay, Long Island in 1963 when I was 15 years old. These were all Greater Scaup.

Ted,

That is a very nice photo, reminds me of the way I used to keep them in my duck boat years ago.

I took the photo of a photo yesterday outside, if you look close you can see a fly landed on the top right part of the 1963 duck photo. The fly looks as big as the greater scaup! I just thought that was funny is all.

My friend took that photo Bob. Was a real sweet double, missed the third though. I think sharptails are one of the most exciting upland birds to hunt, even have pheasant beat IMO. My old man used to say "chicken are so dumb they almost appear to be brilliant".

Hi Ted,

I used to go after sharptails when I lived in South Dakota. I used to hunt with my english teacher sometimes when I was in high school up there.

Hey Bob,

That fly on the pic is funny. I would not have noticed it if you hadn't pointed it out.

Hi Greg,

I laid an 8x10 size photo (1963 duck photo) in the natural light outside and took a digital photo of it so I could post it on the Bulletin Board. A fly lit on the photo just as the shudder went off. The fly is as big as the ducks in that photo, it is kind of funny.
