Bob.........looks like you are "suffering" through the off season........I think I understand your thinken though..........rest the "eyes" in the off season......
Ever have a lady come over to a gathering and get creeped out by all the "dead animal" items and pics around the house? In my experience most do not say anything but every once in a while you'll get some sort of bleeding heart loudmouth.
I remember one spring a gal was over visiting my wife and newborn daughter. The snow had been gone for a week or two which revealed a nice collection of crow bodies in the field behind the house. That really grossed this city chick out and I think she looked at me a little different from there on out. Still makes me chuckle.
There was this gal that I went out with for about 4 to 6 weeks a number of years ago that said as soon as she walked into the "Sun Room" "you must be a Republican with all those dead animals on the wall" Anyway I took it for as long as I could bear it and finally told her to hit the road.

Occationally one of my wifes friends come over and make comment on the numerous big game heads and antlers that grace my den and garage. I have instructed my wife to inform these people that I am an animal hater

Ted - if the good Lord had meant for us to be vegetarians, he would not have made animals out of meat.
PS - my uncle always shot a Model 12 - 16 gauge Poly choke, sitting in my gun safe right now, with all the blue worn off of it. It sure was a heavy gun but boy howdy would it knock the doves out of the sky.

Billboy, I had an old M12 16 gauge with a poly choke as well. Someone back in the day had lopped off the barrel to 25 inches and had the thing installed. In my teens through to my late 20's I likely shot 5000 crows with that ugly little pump gun alone. I used to load shells with Hercules Green Dot powder and one ounce of #8 1/2 shot at 1200 fps. I was absolutely deadly with that gun on crows and not that many ruffed grouse escaped the frying pan as well. I had loaned that gun to a friend as he had skunk troubles at a fishing camp of his. Sadly it was lost in a fire when a cabin burnt. The barrel and reciever were recovered later and the rusted remains still grace a flower garden there.
At present I still own 2 nice M12 16's. One is a higher end Pigeon grade which rarely see's the light of day. The other is a plain jane field grade choked at modified, which appears on my C.B. avitar. I bought this gun years ago for a song at an estate sale. Apparently the original owner had purchased it new for his wife back in the 1950's. It was said she only used it twice. Further, as of late I have secured a good supply of 16 gauge shells at a reasonable price. Thus, in the last couple years, I have killed about 75 percent of my crows with the lowly 16 gauge and Federal 1 ounce field loads of 8 shot @ 1165fps.

I always enjoy reading about your M12 and 16 gauge work. I have a M37 in 16 gauge and it really clobbers the crow with its full choke and 1 ounce of 8's.
My old pal Jim Lundquist went in on a deal with another fella back in 1962 and bought 300 cases (500 to the case) of 16 gauge ammo; all factory seconds. They got them for $ 10.00 a case but they had to take em all! They were in tight with the sales rep. It took Jim 25 years to shoot that ammo up on crows. Jim used a 16 gauge Remington Wing Master bored IC.

M12 Shooter - I've always liked the 16, probably because that's what my daddy and my grandaddy shot. I don't think they would shoot anything else. I have my granddad's LC Smith field grade 16 - I used to shoot it all the time, was at the skeet range one time during the middle of a round, put two shells in, slammed it closed and it went off without me pulling the trigger. It scared me something awful - sure was glad I had developed the habit of ALWAYS pointing a gun down range even if it is not loaded. Anyway, I took it a reputable gunsmith in Dallas - he told me it was the only LC Smith he had ever seen that was slap worn out. I asked my daddy about the history of the gun, he said my granddad bought it new around 1927 before the depression. He lived in Albany, GA and went on one or two dove hunts a year and quail hunting several days a week during the season. I don't know how many thousands of rounds you have to put through an LC Smith to wear it out but he wore that one out between 1927 and 1964. I pull it out and shoot it every few years for old time's sake while thinking about my grandaddy and his string of English pointers.
I have another LC Smith 16 in my gun safe too, a friend of mine had it; it was exactly like my granddad's but he would never sell it to me no matter how much I offered him - I ended up trading his wife a Volvo for it and a case and a half of 16 gauge shells but that's a story for another day.
Billybottx, I have always been fond of the 16's as well. Sadly quality ammo is expensive and unobtainable in many locales. Also sorry to hear that your family went and wore out a good LC Smith on ya. Seriously, there are several LC Smith organizations/forums on the net. I'm sure there some will be able to direct you to those that rebuild/restore classic doubles.

Those anti-hunt freaks have lost their minds...if this was the age of the flinstones they'd all starve to death..plants have feelings too!?!?
Had a friend years ago who had this nice looking woman and she'd been on my cas ebaout hunting so i wondered what the connection was well one day they were no longer together and i wondered what happened then one day it hit me: he loved water fowl hunting ....no, it don't work out...especially a high volume hunter like yourself and i understand totally! Took years for me in example to get it right (well almost) an di don't plan on throwing it all away. It is still hard for me to understand how there can be any anti-hunters in the plains..but around here? Well what haven't i said about that?
What is killing New England or will is all these eastern New Yorkers, Connecticutt and Massachussettes who come up here and vote the same way that annihilated their states' economies and ways of life.
Money does not equal intelligence..hollywood is proof of that!
And speaking of hollywood , all those big time entertainers well one of them just might be your neighbor one fine day..even they cannot stand the liberal states they come ( but like all hypocrites) from. but don't you think for one minute they don't shovel truck loads of money into the lefts' campaign fund! years ago a democrat governor was almost unheard of!
