Your basic safes, such as Browning, Liberty, Cannon, Fort Knox, etc, come with no guarantee against being broken into. A well equipped theif can break into one in less than 5 minutes. The Gruffunders come with 15 to 30 minute guarantees against thieves.
That being said, I have a Liberty safe, and am very happy with it so far. But nobody has tried to break into yet.

I looked at a local supplier yesterday and they have a lot in inventory. Liberty, National Security, Browning, Winchester, Champion etc.. I'm thinking the wider the better.. I like door hinges that swing +180 degrees.... I'm going to keep looking.. That you for all your input...
Most theives want to get in and out quickly on a home invasion, snatch & grab what they can and haul ass. A gun safe is a good investment, I got rid of my safety deposit box years ago and keep my passport and other paperwork inside my safe.
So, are things hot enough in Texas right now? The heat here in kansas has been anywhere from 104 to 106 degrees everyday for the past week. My wife Gail used to say "this heat is taking away my will to live" she was a wonderful gal and not a day goes by that I don't think of her. She had such a great sense of humor.
I know you have one child now, any more? Your wife is a friggin knock out to look at! Your a lucky guy, and she is lucky to have you. Enjoy each & every day with her, life goes quickly, "we are only young for a day, and then old & grey"

My safe is a little older...United Safe Company. Wieghs about 850 empty, ....If a theif were to try and get in it, they would have to decifer a dial lock system......but I guarenty they aint gonna pry it open.........then all they have to do is run faster that 3500 feet per second if I happen accross them.....
I agree with Bob, I have my passport , will, etc....all in my safe. Mine is "fire proof"...(for what thats worth) and is in my basement, which would help in case of fire.

Maybe so Buzz, but all a thief has to do is bring a gas powered concrete saw like the one pictured below. That saw will carve a hole in the sidewall of most safes in under a minute. Granted, most theives won't be lugging one of these along, but one might if he suspected that you had tens of thousands of dollars worth of firearms stuffed in a safe. The Graffunders supposedly can withstand this type of assault for 15-30 minutes, depending on the model. Thats much longer than your typical thief wants to spend on location.
Bob, we're having a relatively mild summer in DFW this year. We've only had 8 or 9 days in triple digits so far. We had 71 last year, so we're not complaining a bit.
We're up to 2 kids now, we had a little girl back in December, she's learning to crawl.
I doubt my Stack-On safe is fire proof, but its a pretty decent safe for how cheap it was (under $200). It's light enough that when its unloaded I can move it with a little effort (important when moving year to year in a college town), but would be pretty difficult to move fully loaded without anyone noticing. But I'm sure you're looking for something MUCH nicer...
Safes in the UK are pretty flimsy for firearms, being just 2-3mm thick pressed steel and powder coated. They do have to have a minimum 5 lever or 7 lever deadlock system, with multiple bolts going across, and also pry proof hinges, and the have to be bolted to a secure wall with rawl lots. You could get through one with an angle grinder, but would take probably 30 mins to get a hole big enough to get a gun through, getting it off the wall without taking the wall with them is nigh on impossible. Then we have to keep parts in different safes, so they would have to open maybe two three safes to get a working gun, and the ammo is kept in yet another safe, so they are gonna have fun. Add to that I have three seperate overlapping alarm systems, and then another two on gun rooms, and they have a problem. My house is like fort Knox according to my firearms officer LOL

if you buy or build one , dont't forget to put a dehumidifier in .Works in many cases , to protect your firearms. Maybe you won't even notice it , but if your guns , come rust free after years , the dehumidifier will have played a role.
Also don't forget to decide what you want it for, I mostly need it for locking guns away from kids , not so much about getting my guns stolen. If you need it for general protection from everything , you will have to spend a lot of money, so I advise you to biuld one yourself.
I got in touch with Griffin Enterprises (Griffin Safes) in my home state and am planning on going to the show room soon to have a look.. They have a pretty good video on youtube showing some different safes.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBVUDCicerA
They actually still use concrete in the mfg process.. They also sell the Liberty brand....
