I totally plastered a crow decoy yesterday. That is a first for me. I pulled up on a pair of crows that were "too close." I smashed the first bird and as I swung on the second bird to complete my double he flew right threw the short dead tree I had my decoys in. Normally when they do that it is pretty simple to just let them fly thru the tree before completing the shot. Well, I guess I was a little excited or something since it was the first hunt of the year....I thought I had a good shot window but these pics prove me wrong. It took me a while to find the decoy in the tall grass, I blasted it 15 yards from the hanging point in the tree. Knocked the flocking right off too.
Doh!
This decoy was shot with #7's. I think he got both the shock and penetration effect!
I know its no consolation to you but your fine field report and great pictures gave me some satisfaction and generated a big grin to boot!
I can't tell you how many times I've almost sent a load of shot into one of Gadget Bob's many decoys over the years. Bob's equipment has thus far been spared only because of my reaction time always trails my targeting computer processing time!
