Spent some time with the Texas Crow Patrol

Matt & Gadget Bob came by for a visit today, we spent several hours talking. They wanted to see how my sun sticks work so we went out to the "Meat Wagon" and I showed them how easy they are to setup. They are for keeping the sun out of your face when you are looking south in a north type of breeze. We watched some crow footage that the public has never seen, then toured the crow museum. Gadget was looking at an old ammo box from the 1930's that is made out of wood. It was Govt Issue to the farmers (free of charge) so they could shoot the crows. I showed Bob a black bracelett and asked him & Matt if they knew what it was made out of, they didn't know so I said it's elephant hair from the tail of an elephant! It's adjustable to fit any size wrist.

We were drinking coffee & OJ on the back porch when the crows started up, so Matt said can you call them for us? I went inside and grabed one of my Jack Mincey crow calls and gave em a shout, well here they come and Gadget Bob is out there taking action photos of them. Then we went to the rib shack for some ribs, Gadget & Matt said you were not BS'n "these are really damn good ribs" Gadget bought two jars of there secret sauce to take back to Texas.

It was really very nice meeting those two, they are good guys. Gadget says he is going to post some photos of there visit for the members. Gadget loves model 12 Winchesters so I showed him my 20 gauge pigeon grade; he took some close up photos of the gold inlay on the receiver.

Well thats the latest news!

Bob A.

Bob,
It was a real pleasure visiting with you yesterday, we appreciate your hospitality. Seeing your crow shooting equipment and memorabelia was an enjoyable experience for us fellow crow shooters. Hopefully Gadget Bob can get the pictures uploaded soon. I'm sure everyone on the board will get a kick out of the 'gift exchange'.

Gadget Bob,

Let me know how your BBQ ribs taste with that rib sauce you bought at the rib shack. I had some pretty good ribs in Garland 5 years ago, but the rib shack still had em beat in my opinion.

When you use your sun sticks keep them close to you within 2 1/2 to 3 feet, they work the best that way.

I am curious as to how a blown up photo (on the Bulletin Board) will look of Matt's Mincey crow call. I had to go to therapy after you gave me a box of #6's as a gift! I'm going to use them to blow some of the dead limbs out of my trees on monday after the neighbors go to work.

Talk to you soon.

Bob A.

That is the best idea, if you were to use them on crows you would definitely be in therapy when you realized how many years you wasted using something inferior biggrin

Here are some pictures of the TCP's visit with Bob A. As mentioned above, we arrived bearing the gift of #6 shot, the finest crow load ever made.  biggrin    Bob showed us some limbs that he had "pruned" from his yard using a full choke 12 gauge.  We just hope he doesn't waste those fine #6's on his next pruning job.  no

Overall, the visit was very interesting.  We saw pictures of waterfowl hunts in South America, and some exceptional mounts of large african game. Bob showed us a couple of videos of crow hunts, and let us examine his crow hunting equipment.  We toured the crow musem, and then proceeded to the local barbeque joint for some outstanding ribs.

To top it off, Bob presented me with an autographed Jack Mincey crow call.  I think that "one-ups" the box of #6 shot that we gave him.

Thanks again for having us Bob.

Here are pics of some of the crows that Bob A. called in while we were sipping coffee in his back yard.  And a few of his crow guns.

Hi guys,

Our visit with Bob was most enjoyable and interesting...  He has some fantastic wood on his shotguns and the photo's from a lifetime of wingshooting were most impressive.  Black swans?  I bet Bob is the only guy on this forum to have ever bagged such an exotic species.

Bob gave us the "inside baseball" tour including showing us his lineup of ecallers, unseen crow hunting video footage, and his unique "Meat Wagon" - with his self-designed blind and "sun sticks".  We really appreciated him taking the time with us.

The ribs Bob introduced us to were outstanding.  Thanks again Bob.

Regards,

GB, great photos.

After chowing down on ribs, baked beans & texas toast I didn't eat again until the following day I was so full. I'm glad you fellas enjoyed yourselves at crow hunters headquarters. I got a kick out of "the gift photo" and the photos of my model 12 skeet gun turned out real well.

You got a pretty good photo of one of the crows going through the trees. There is one that flies around the neighborhood with a chocolate head!

Matt's photos turned out real well. I like the one he took in the ammo dump with you holding the model 12 20 gauge.

I'm quite sure the members will enjoy your photos, thanks for posting them.

Sincerely,

Bob A.

Bob, your M12 Pigeon Grade Skeet, is that factory engraving and inlay from the Winchester custom shop or after market?

That was from the custom shop back in the 1960's.

I still hunt quail with that model 12 Ted.

Hey GB & Matt,

I found an Item I havent seen in many years while looking for something else! I just put it in the Crow Museum, it's the "last copy" Bert Popowski had of his Instructional crow calling record in 33 1/3 speed on one of those old vinal records. Bert has "last one" written on the cover of the record. He sent it to me back in 1976.

My partner is on his way to Canada to hunt ducks & geese for the next two months. He left this morning from Ohio.
