First time out! and just as many as if I would have slept in.

Got all my stuff together and loaded up last night. Woke up nice and early, let the dog out and headed to a close spot that is always good for a crow or two early season in hopes to get my dog a pre-duck season retrieve. Even got back out of bed last night and threw a few grouse loads in my bag as a swatter load to make sure the crow was dead (was told they can be rough on dogs, so wanted to be safe).

Got there and... nothing... didn't even hear one in the distance.

Not even sad I didn't shoot, just dissapointed I let Jazz down!

Hopefully tomorrow morning is a different story :)

Scouting can't make up for a large area with only a few crows, August in NH is a tough month to find any concentration of birds. Don't give up, keep going it get better through Sept, peaks in Oct and still some good shooting in November. Good luck.

Yeah, not much around. Even the coastal spot I have was pretty slow when I went to check it out.

Most spots I have are best Oct-Nov but usually I can scratch out a few in Aug and a handful in September.

So far: 2 Pigeons haha

Not sure where abouts in NH you are but many things determine crow shooting. I am not fond at all of summer crow shooting myself. But still I leave that up to the individual all the same. My old technique was to field hop. My partner and i would go out early morning and find the crows and scare them out-call them back-get one or two-move on. The gas prices and all the houses being put up put an end to that. No fall set ups at all. If you have  a post or tree branch you can lean an owl decoy on top of and just call and stay hidden this should work depending upon where you are. But don't over call either. You probably won't need more than an owl decoy for this too, besides a mouth call or electric call...but the action will be over fast then time to move on. I don't like that kind of hunting either now a days. But if you've got a lot of crows then that will work. My area used to but there isn't enough farmland to support any  number of crows. Too few to get me out of bed to a cold frosty October morning!
