Some random pics from Germany and Ireland...

Hi there,

since you seem to enjoy pictures from abroad I thought I'll post some.

A friendly irish lad who was inspecting me (and trying to eat my jacket...) as I was walking in his field.......

The first crow of the holiday in my Father in law's backgarden in Ireland (County Meath).

My first ever Magpie, called in with the amazing MID call from Sam Newt (Belgium).

My setup along a tiny river - about 15 K from Rothenburg ob der Tauber (some of you might know that place...). The crows did not come in that day and hovered over the decoys.

When shot, they were blown across the stream... Result: 1 Magpie, 3 Crows.

A kick Ass spot for sentinels. 5 came into our decoys - all stayed! I could kick myself for not taking more pics there... We used 60 decoys, spread out in an L shape sloping around that spot. Sweet view into the valley. Unfortunately the flight path was not existant that morning so we had to call in stragglers from the village to our right....

My first rabbit with a shotgun (Ireland).

Now compare it to the big one I got afterwards! I have shot smaller hares than THAT!!

Now, I hope you enjoyed those pics.

Regards,
Z.

Hi everyone,
Glad you like the pics. If you have feedback on the decoy layout I'd be glad to get it - I am still learning...
We have a great forum here in germany where I've learned a lot from reading, asking and hunting with experienced and dedicated people. Since last year the crow hunters are under close watch from the anti whackos!!! Death threats false accusations in newspapers and all... I think you've read about the articles...

@Bob, what's a century decoy?

Yeah that bunny was something else... Bunny season will be starting soon. We usually do driven hunts for hare, boar, sometimes fox with beaters and dogs. We have horn signals for different prey to display final respect to our quarry. Those are good days with hunters that I've known for some 20 odd years.... I'll post pics when I have them in November...

Rgds,
Z.

Zedd, I feel he was referring to your "sentry" deeks placed way up high. I am a big fan of getting my decoys as high and visible as possible. It is my belief that a few well placed decoys are as much or more effective than many poorly placed decoys on the ground or lower in the tree canopy. Thanks for sharing your hunt.

@ M12: I' with you. I always try to make sure that they are very visible.
That's why I use poles - to get them over the treetops. If i can (and have the time I sit them into dead trees).
I also try to have a bright background and use the much bigger Averys for sentinels.

Zedd, photos of my simple decoy setups. Never use more than 6 decoys as well. I often have crows sneak in to "join" the deeks when I'n not calling as the decoys are just so visable. This is in the early spring though, when cover is sparse. Once things green up one has to be more innovative.
