Seems every time I crow hunt its the same thing.  60 or 70 yards high.  Im thinking of useing a damn tree stand so I can get in range!  Kinda sick of having to take rediculous shots and shoot 6-8 shells just to kill a couple.  I need more choke and skill to bat 500 at looong ranges.  If I can find a place where the trees arent a mile tall I can usually whack' em pretty good and bat around 500.  What can I do to get them to work in closer to the tree tops?  How do you get decoys in the tall trees, cast a line into the top and reel the decoy up? Need a little help from you seasoned vets.   Thanks

Troy,

Under the conditions you describe I would seek out areas where they feed. They gotta come down sometime and thats one of those times. It depends how well you know the area and the habits of the birds within that particular county. Talking to the locals can help "if" you talk to the right guy about where they like to feed.

Once you get permission it's just a matter of picking out a good spot to ambush them from.

Good luck.

I say you gotta find somewhere to hunt that doesn't have tall trees ( I finally figured that out and it makes ALL the difference in the world)
You want to be in a field with some small trees shrubs or hide in the tall grass.
The next big thing that "could" be your problem, DON'T use the "FIGHT" call,( this is probably the single most important thing I learned from ol' double tap, MN John) it will bring those crows in ....

,1.) on "red alert" and

2 ) way higher than normal, because they are nervous

> get in a highly visible spot with at least one crow up high, I tie a spool of heavy thread to a large nut, (nut and bolt) and toss that over a high branch, tie the decoy to the end where the nut was , and pull the deke up from the spool side and tie off.

then use normal crow sounds or none, you'll be surprised how low they come in, and silently.
Once you open up on the crow/crows that came in ,then switch to a distress/dying crow type sound and watch the frenzy. then repeat
hope this helps a little
